Maine

Well it's been a while.  Good to be back sharing.  Would love to hear any suggestions for these pictures...framing, color, etc...

Went to Maine this summer on vacation.  While there, we took a puffin tour.  This consisted of a 1.5 hr boat ride out to an island.  Right in the middle of the island was a Lighthouse .  Once safely onshore, there was an eerie view back at the boat we came on:  Boat1   as well as a second  Boat2 of competing tourists.  After a bit of waiting for some blinds to open, we finally got up close and personal with a  Puffin1 .  This one had a good day fishing!

Im assuming that the Lighthouse has the haze in it 'cuz you were still in the edge of the mist... ?? No..? I like Boat2 instead of 1, but would have liked to see the boat composed in the left side of the image, coming into the shot rather than centered. And Puffin is cute.... never seen one before. Looks like a Penguin with a piece of alluminum foil in it's mouth. I like that you caught the puffin in the background raising it's wings, like Hey.... look at me!!!!!

  • Looks like your were in a thick fog. Like the second boat picture better. Nice shot of the puffin. Didn't know we had them here in the US. Never saw one

  • Your Puffin shot is awesome!  The other puffin in the background makes for an interesting backdrop..... liked your second boat shot... agree with Turbo on composing the shot with the boat coming in from the left.... and open water to it's right would give it a better sense of movement across the shot....

Cool shots! The Light house one I like the least it looks more hazy then foggy, too centered for my taste too.

  • If you do any post work on these you might consider taking the photos with fog, increasing the contrast, intensity and decreasing the brightness a bit. Experiment and see what changes happen. I think you will be excited to see how much you can make these pop playing with the contrast. Also, looks like some dust on the lens in the lower right corner in boat1 and boat2. I hope this was helpful!!! Great shot of the puffin.

  • Thanks for the comments!!  Yes, that was on Norton's.  I think I missed the good foggy lighthouse by about 15 minutes!  Appreciate the suggestions.

  • In boat 1 it is so foggy can almost feel the mist falling.....never heard of a puffin before--this one sure has bright color and you caught it with its mouth full--good catch.
