Photographica Upgrade Discussion Topic

At long last, Photographica has many exciting new features and improvements. So, what is new?
General:
- A fresh new look!
- Tags are back! You tag your story while you edit it.
- Tons of fixes to long standing issues.
- Private Messages can contain the same kinds of formatting as a story.
- Edit Stories: You can now edit your stories after you post them.
- Create Drafts: In addition, you can work on a story by saving it as draft and publish it when you are ready.
- Improved editor: No more HTML or learning or tags. Works like a mini version of word
Bi-Weekly Challenge:
- Flagged Entries: Stories that are in the challenge will have a flag next to them.
- Details: Details about the challenge are better presented.

I had to ask how to use the new format, but it is really easy to use. I really like the new format. Thanks for the change.

Love'n it cory!
One thing, Slideshows aren't working. I can't edit them or insert them in a story.

I'll take a look at the slideshows. The slideshow icon also shows up for non-subscribers, which is obviously a bug :-)

I have the same prob as Surfer Guy with selecting photos from the "images" button. All the pics are in the menu on the right and you can drag them into the page but I don't think we want to fill the page with photos. Links is good. Like this... IMG_2313

I posted a slide show with my test post after going back to edit. (nice feature) I works OK but I don't know yet how to make a new slide show. I will go figure that out.

What exactly is the tag feature or what do I use it for?
Also:
When I click images a window pops up with several images, however, they are not all the pictures but there is a button on the bottom that has a 2 in it which I assume is the second page of photos but nothing happens when pressing the button. Therefore the image selection is limited to the first set of images.
My inserted image has no name.........???
Thanks!

I haven't gotten to tags yet, but it doesn't have much to do with your story I don't think.
Cory is working on the images button, it works like that of me and SG and perhaps others. You have to give your image a name. I don't know if you can do that after it is inserted or not, haven't tried it but i bet you can. I will go see. Cory? if you have time for it...

The pages on the image list?
hello world. page 1. page 2. Works. Yay!

As for tags? They used to work a year ago, and I've brought them back to life. Tags are basically the same as on flickr - just a really good way to categorize all the content on this site.
Check it:

Hello ProLab,
I'm sorry you find this place aggravating. I'm working hard to improve its usability. If you are new here, keep in mind that it usually isn't this unstable - I just pushed out a bunch of changes on friday and there were some problems that didn't show up in testing.

Cory,
I entered a submission into the weekly challenge, but I don't see it there. (Also, nothing happens when I click the insert link button...)

where are the instructions on how to insert a picture and have it pop up? i used to just write the whole thing with the html on my notepad myself, then i just copied it into the story box, and pushed preview. where is the preview button anyway?
i can't figure out how to use the new stuff? sorry i'm not more computer literate.

The good news, Evil, is you dont need HTML anymore. You just click on the icon above "images" in the text box and a list of your images shows up. Click on one of them and it will add it to the story.
As for previews, I'm aware they are removed. I couldn't think of a good way to preview the story. Since you pretty much see how the story will look before you post and go back and change things later, I figured I could think about it after the release. That said, while I am typing this message, I think I understand the problem better. Unlike stories that are published, drafts have no way to "view" them. I wont promise anything yet, but I think I get it now :-)
Thanks for the heads up on the link button Mr. Troll.

Yeah, we all have those bug. What I find weird is we can view drafts when we click on the stories tab in the dashboard.
Also, I don't know if it's just today but slideshows are running like slugs. I clicked on Ashton's most recent one and it took a while to load (not just the images in the slideshow, but the actual slideshow). I started scrolling through the first page and eventually it popped up on screen.

Oh! I have one more thing. When we go to our stories via the little link on the right "your stories" we can only view so many of them. There's not another page to go to the next 20 or so. If I wanted to view older stories I have to click on my name (like clicking on someone else's to go to their profile) and then go to stories.
Just knit-picking. Not complaining. Perhaps it's not really knit-picking or complaining... just... being a pain in the ass :-D Or observant because I have way too much time on my hands.
But it's not vital. Just a convience is all. So get to it when you want to get to it. I'm loving the new features in the meantime.
