Waiting for Summer

By Andrea written 5/7/08 9:43 AM, published 5/7/08 9:43 AM

As summer approaches, I'm finding it harder and harder to focus on my work. I wind up daydream about all the places I could be, so I thought I'd post pictures from some of the places I've been and would love to go back to.

A view of the Pacific from the Costa Rican Jungle.

Bell flower in the garden

A butterfly that decided to take a ride on my brother's shoulder.

Beautiful butterfly.  The shirt is so vibrant it looks like it could be hanging out on a flower.  Great detail in it and the bell flower.

What a pretty place.  Love the flower and the butterfly.  :o)

The first one is beautiful but the horizon is a little off.  The shot pulls the eye right in.  I really like the framing of the greens.

Penny - yeah, the horizon bothers me too, (although its the straightest of all my similar shots). I think horizon disparities are easiest to notice in ocean shots, I suppose should travel with a tripod! Thanks for the critiques and thanks to all for looking!

    - Hi, How are you?

  • Ashton

    Love the butterfly!!

Lovely shots, makes me want to take off.

I'll let you in on a secret Andrea.  Straighten your horizons in post-processing (digital or wet).  I use a tripod over half the time I'm shooting landscapes and I still can't get them straight (it helps, trust me).  I even have the grids turned on in the viewfinder on my D200!  I'm convinced my head is just crooked.

Jungle is such a familiar scene to me. Reminds me when I was younger, I lived in Panama and we went on a boat ride to an island where there was a nature walk. Anyways, I really liked bellflower~very delicate! What a nice visit from such a beautiful butterfly!

    Nice shots,

if what EMF said about straightening the horizon can't be done post because you lack the software, Picasa 2 is free and has that feature in it's tools. I use that program 1st before anything else even when there is serious work to be done and I have to go to P.S.

    - So shoot already!!

In spite of the small tilt in the horizon ... "Jungle" is a very well composed image and is just beautiful!! ... Well Done!!
