Lonely indeed.  Nice shot (I'm gonna have to say a tad more contrast on this one too, but otherwise very nice).  I'd come sit with you!

I like this one for the simplicity, b/w works well! Your thumb looks like someone got murdered on the plate!

Me too on the contrast.  And I'd sit with you too--if you'd let me!

    - blow.....hard

Very clear picture, nice moodiness.  I love the thumb, too...but you should EAT PICKLES!!!  yummmmmmm........

Very nice composition on the main shot - but the thumbnail, what is it?

3 votes for a bit more contrast. Love the solitude of the bench.

Thanks for your comments. I know what your saying about the contrast, but sometimes the natural lighting makes it hard to have that crisp contrast. The bright sun that day kinda blows out the surfaces that have a lot of sun contact. So if you try to simply add more contrast you get really blown out highlights. To do what your eye wants to see takes more that just adding contrast. So here is an example of a corrected shot ..bench work.

But the real idea of the shot was to leave a dreamy look. To me when you add the a more contrast look you lose that feel and get a over worked look.

     Thanks again.

I can see what you're saying.  But perhaps there's a way to just boost the blacks.  Not having a sold black (or at least dark gray and sometimes not having a definitive white) makes the shot look flat because of all the gray.  It's just a deception or a preconception we all have.  But I do like the way the after shot looks... it's all apart of my pre-conceived notion :-D

I d/led a free trial of adobe ligthroom the other day and it allows you to adjust just the blacks, the fill light, and the exposure separately (or the contrast as a whole).  I'm not sure what program you use, but there's a 30 day free trial if you wanted to check it out.

Depending on the degree.....when you boost just the dark or black values you will lose certain other highlights....like the back ground. I have use lightroom before  and it is a great tool.

I like it... simple, to the point. Nice compostion.

    - See, shoot, shoot again.

Yeah, I've noticed that messing with it a bit.  But I do know I like it a lot better than adjusting the contrast as a whole.  And sometimes messing with the fill light brings back some of the areas that get too dark.  But anyway, thanks for explanation of the original shot.

    Nice shoot Chef!

I like it, too.  My first reaction to seeing it was to look at the top and wonder what the plaque said.  Then looking at the whole, it is simple and inviting.
