In spite of an anonymous user

By enigmaticfaerie written 6/3/08 5:59 AM, published 6/3/08 6:05 AM

I'm still going to post my "crap."  Not for the sake of posting something, but for the sake that I might get an actual critique today.

But no, not flowers.  Maybe something even more trite and despised.  Leaves and waterdrops *gasps at the horror*
Oh dear god no!  And not only that, but I have the words to a cute little disney song as the titles in the slideshow.

Oh please, stop the insanity.

Drip drip drop little April Showers

Ok, I'm done.  Critique the shots without being personal please.  I promise they'll slide right off my back like water on a duck.

    #1 and #7 are the best;

I wasn't your attacker yesterday, but I have to say that it is hard to make photos of flowers and leaves interesting; your focus on the water drop is a nice touch.

Personally, I've started cruising the photo pages of deviant art, because so many photos get published there so quickly it's easy to surf through and try to build an idea of the kind of pictures that work and the kind that are correct but boring.

By the way - how do you do a slide show?

You have to be a subscriber. One of the few perks to paying for your account here.  You also get to visit the insanity room.  It's our private lounge.

And I understand that.  My problem with the anon. yesterday was their attitude and personal attacks.  Not the fact they didn't like the work.  Thanks for the suggestion of deviant.  I've looked it a few times, but it's not on my everday to check out list.  Maybe I should put it there.

These were very good. The photos. The copy sucked big ones. Personal attacks, attitude, anon, jeeze louise, one seriously disturbed little girl you are. And I missed the other comment you made about terrorists, what a  total ditz and hyperbolic chicken little. Is there any wonder this place has shrunk to its current low?

I like the busyness of number 7 best with all the multiple drips.

Love the reflections in the drops.  All great close ups! Keep up the great work. :o)

AU, do you really think you are helping?  Is your criticism constructive?  You're like the estranged 3rd husband of the 2nd cousin once removed that feels impotent when around the rest of us and so is set on destroying what the rest of us want to keep together.  Granted, it may not be perfect, but if we are content and happy here, why can't you just let us be???  Think about it, would you even be welcome in any other setting?  Would any other website allow you to post anonymously?  I'm sure what you are doing to Leslie is not the reason Cory allows you to exist.  And he does allow you.  No matter how potent you may feel you are, he can wipe you out with one swoop.

I'm sorry Leslie, this space should be for you, but I can't ignore what he is saying to you.  You are a good person, a kind person, and whether or not he likes your work, no one deserves to be treated like that.

  • Anonymous User

Oh dear god. Are you really that feeble?

My criticism would be constructive if Leslie took as constructive, rather than as a personal attack, terrorism, or any other grandiose nonsense she dreams it to be.

Think about it. All sites allow anonymity. Think about it even harder. Why is anonymity on trial? Is anonymity to blame?

    Of course not.

Cory is a young ,hard working, programmer that would love to see his site succeed.  A bunch of sad sack losers trying to find a family to replace the ones they never had, isn't going to help him succeed at all, now is it?

Now then, Ms. Blind, may I call you Ms. Blind? Would you prefer Lefty? Lefteye? No, let's stay with your formal, real name, Ms. Blind.  You can call me Mr. User.

Cory allows me to exist; that's too rich, Ms. Blind, too rich.

The drips are a wonderful example of an attempt to improved one perspective as a photographer.  Try to capture a reflection within the next drop you find.  As far as critique is concerned, we all need it.  Keep shooting, throw them up on the wall and see what sticks, and keep what you enjoy.  Critcism should be just that and not an excuse for some recluse to go out in public just to prove his/her own short comings.  Good job.

  • Lidljo
You have a lovely set here and I really like the clarity and focus on the drips - color is great also.

I agree with all the others. Keep practicing and never give up your day job.

  • The Old Guy

hard to keep the anon's in order. I know one of them that needs AA quality treatment quite badly. Oh, I couldn't resist. What a waste of space that took, not mine, his, or maybe I should say it's. Sign on as a registered  member, show us some of your great work! Then make the noise you are making now. It must be great for you to be such an authority as you claim to be. Interesting that it is at odds with everyone else.

I guess I'll be next. Armor up!!

Leslie, I love drip drops. I took on that had a good reflection in it and mirrored it up. Gave an interesting perspective.

    - So shoot already!!

What happened to "Say less, and shoot more"?

  • ShadesofBlueArt

excuse me... they are all a bunch of crap with the exception of photos 1 thru 7, which I might say are quite good. Sorry had to grab your 1st line. (lol) :)

Sometimes I agree as to the non-critiques on this site. I have been posting since 2004 and there is not enough of it. If more would get into the process, layout, color, contrast, subject matter, etc blah blah type of critique as to "that is beautiful" then we all may learn through the eyes of others and blow off anon user comments unless constructive. After 35 years of shooting film and now digital, I can never give up learning from my mistakes. As seen through the experience of other photographers be pro or novice.

Keep shooting and enjoy it. Life is too short. By the way I like most of your work.

    - Art is What ?

  • Phantoms Wife

Well, at last! I haven't been able to view slideshows lately, but tonight I got this one to go. (I know, personal problem). I enjoyed these, Leslie, with #6 slightly edging out #4 for me.

    - learning never ends

  • fuzzy1
I think your strongest shots are 3-6-7.  In 1 and 2, the half blue background is distracting.  4 has a strange focal point; do you want to draw interest to the drop, or to the edge of the leaf (where the focal point is)?  Not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at in that one, it's slightly confusing...5 is just sort of blah - the drop is not pronounced enough to make it a compelling image, IMHO.  6 and 7 are great; the blue works well in both of them.

    - f8 and be there...

  • BusyB1965
the angle, color, dep, texture, all are my choice for #6, really do like it, can't you tell.  The only one that seemed just a tad dark to me is #4..

    - Blessings

  • kalole0

Went back to look again and 3 & 7 are my faves.  In 3, the focus and reflection in the drop is great and the sli. diagonal line of the leaf adds interest.  In 7, you have another nice diagonal and the drops are all lined up.  I find the background a little more distracting but not enough to bother me.

What does bother me is the personal vendetta that the au is posting.  This is not the place for such a tirade.  It's one of the reasons I started using Flicker and may be a reason to go back there.

Hope you can do as my mother always told us, "just consider the source".  It took a while to appreciate the wisdom of those words, but they're still appropriate.  Keep posting and critiquing.   I need it and benefit from it.  Will try to do the same for you.

    - togetherness.....

  • BEARPHOTO
1 and 3 are the best for me girl. Color, clarity at POI and a dreamy DOF. You are young, talented, sensitive and I am jealous of your increasing knowledge and constructive critiques. Have fun and celebrate life each day. Smile on the inside too, for it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

Oh noooooooo!  I'm hearing voices again.

  • Anonymous User
    Me three.

  • enigmaticfaerie

For fuzzy, 4 was my best attempt at actually getting the drop falling.  But I see your point and I had those issues with all the ones of the drop falling from that shoot.  It was difficult.  I spent 30 minutes just trying to get a decent shot of the drop falling.  I didn't suceed very well.

And thanks to everyone for the critiques.  I'll keep working on it.
