Thanks to those that commented on that do hickey in the last post. I wondering what the heck the the balls on top of the pulley were for.

A couple pictures taken last week while on a trip to the smokies. The first is a picture of Gary  (my granddaughter named him after the snail on Sponge Bob).  It was taken with an extension tube. I finally picked one up but still need to get a set of Kenko's. The one I have is all manual and would not allow me to fire the flash.

Next is a deer  we came across in Cades Cove.

Last are a couple of bear  pictures. That was the momma and these are of the cubs  cubs. One of the cubs ran up a tree and looked directly at the camera. Unfortunately, the picture is blurry. I shot it at a high ISO of 1250 wide open at F2.8 but the 1/60 shutter speed was too slow for 80-200mm zoom set at the long end. missed shot : (

  • Wildlife photography is soooo tricky, but we have to go with what is put in front of us and you did GREAT.  You can tell you were working with low light and to get the detail you got is Fantastic.  I am sure you were not jumping at the bits to get any closer.  Those guys are sooo unpredictable and a mom with cubs is even worse.  Always have a camera cause you never know what critter will cross your path.  Glad you made it through to snap another day.  Great Job!!!

deer and snail are great shots....the bears are lucky captures....may I suggest moving in much closer to mama and her cubs for some really hairy close ups....kidding...you were way closer than I would have ever been!

  • The mama bear looks pretty big!   I don't think I would've been that close!  You're more brave than me!

I like the intricate detail of the snail photo, very good.

I like the colors and focus in the shot of Gary, never seen a snail with it's shell on sideways before :-) And the focus on the deer shot is excellent. The greenery around really makes it stand out.

Gary is a great shot. Love the dof in the deer.  Glad you caught the shots of the bears, and were safe.   :o)

  • The deer shot for me and I like the dof in it...You were fortunate to see the bears, they are a rare sight in the mountains, but now in town and surrounding homes is a different story..a lot of people have bear problems at their home....
