what is it 

I am entering this shot not only because it is a cool shot but because I truely have no idea what the heck it is?  I know there is someone out there that can figure it out.  All I can tell you is that they are tiny and spiky yet hollow.  It is a cacoon of some sort....Very neat.  Does anyone know what kind of bug it could be?

    This picture is the cocoons I want to know what came out of them!!!!!  They are about the size of a pencil eraser and on the trunk of my tree in my yard.

    I have NO idea what came out of the cocoon just a photo of the remains......?????  Thought it would be an awesome post for the catagory cause not even I know "What the heck it is".  LOL!!!!!

    Best advice I can give you: send the picture to http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ and ask 'em. I found a monstrous thing in my yard some years back, and they had the answer straight away. (It was a dobson fly.)
