For two weeks now I have seen pics of an eagle nest not too far from my house.  So the other day I ventured out to find it.  Well I did.  It was great just sitting there watching the female.  She tended to her eggs.  It was interesting watching her.  She did take a lap pretty close to spead her wings.  I am planning on going back to try to catch the male.  At one point when I was watching her and listening.  He was in the area. I heard him call back to her but he never came anywhere that I could see him.  I wish I could have gotten closer. But this was better then nothing.

  • Isn't that the best part about photography? Going out and experiencing your subject is the best. You have a story to go with your pictures.

The only way these could be better would be if you could somehow climb one of those trees and get a better look! :)

LOL at Bogus.  These are really great photos given the circumstances.  It's so exciting to find a beautiful bird and get it captured even when conditions are not ideal.

Now, excuse my ignorance, but what kind of eagle is it?

It is a female Bald Eagle.  As usual they are dull compared to the males.  She was great to watch.  I could have sat there for hours and hours.  As it was I was there for 2 hours.

  • Penny - I had a thought on #4 - if you could have caught the sun just right thru that little triangle under her tail, it would look like an egg she was laying!!!  Oh well, I guess this challenge has my imagination running wild.  Love the eagles - and the best part is just seeing in person, stuff others will only see in photos.  Good shoot.

  • Penny, not that I doubt you, but those eagles look like Ospery (Fish Eagle). There heads just a tiny bit smaller and little darker and they're wing are white underneath.

take more pic's and prove me wrong I want to be wrong. The images you captured were breathtaking!

  • Just an added thought to Andrea's thought. Nope, if you notice in #1, the eagle has long pants and #4 dark under wings whereas the Osprey has short pants and light under wings, even as Andrea said.  Methinks Penny's shots be eagles.

Penny, Don't eagles go back to the same nest every year?  You can be ready for them next year!  How fun will that be to watch them every year.  Hope they are close enough to check on them often.  Again, can't wait for more shots.  :o)

  • Isn't it amazing to see eagles! For a long time we didn't, and now they are everywhere. Everytime I see them fly, my heart stops. I'm glad Ben Franklin lost out and the turkey isn't the national bird. Way to go, Penny.
