This is the beautiful and magnificent Angel Oak Tree near Charleston South Carolina. " The Tree" as the locals call it is estimated to be about 1400 years old. It's branches are as big as most trees trunks. It's trunk is nearly 25 feet around! It is humbling to just be in it's presence.

Charleston is one of my favorite places. That tree is magnificent. Love your photos.

Magnificent is a good word for this majestic old (understatement) tree. Wish it could talk about all it has seen in those 1400 years!

Oh I love The Angel Oak! I want to go back there so bad. It is amazing to see the size of it and think of what it has seen. Thanks so much for sharing. My kids were little when we went there and still talk about it. Great shots
I just showed my son the pics and we noticed there are picnic tables there now. When we went it was not like that there.

I am so glad to see the Angel Oak is still doing fine! We have pictures of our kids in front of that tree when they were little, probably early 80's. At that time we paid a dollar to go in and look at it! Whenever Charleston has had hurricanes over the years, we have always wonder if the Angel Oak survived.... now we know... Thanks so much for posting these shots!

What a difficult thing to photograph! Great job!
BTW, what are those white basket-looking things on the ground by the branches?

The white things on the ground are signs saying not to climb on the tree. Some of the branches also have wooden supports under them because they are so heavy. The tree received massive damage during hurricane Hugo, but has recovered fairly well.

Superb tree shots I've heard of the Angel oak, before Like to go see it myself one day. We have one similar to it in Austin called the Treaty Oak. Some jackass tried to kill it and almost did. Lost a bunch of it. Hmm seems like a good time to post shots of it...lol
You did a great job presenting it.
