Yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lily's outside of where i work were fianlly open.  I have been playing around a little bit with Picasa to become familiar with some of the different changes I can make. I have posted both the orignal and the edited version. Please share your comments and suggestions. Thank you

Here I was trying to capture the texture of the center Original  Edited (Focal b&w/soft focus)

The rest are different flowers at different angles

 #1 Original Edited (Crop/Focal b&w)

 #2 Original Edited (b&w)

 #3 Original Edited (decreased saturation)

  • Pretty flowers.

Being more of a purist, I enjoyed the originals best.
I noticed on some there was a 'flash shadow', something I have trouble with, also.

  • Ditto with Mrquackers. The original is a pretty darn shot. I think you captured the texture very well. I did like the #1crop/focal b&w though.

  • #1 Original has the best composition to me.... better in edited shot as you cropped out the distracting plant tag that is in upper left....#1 Original cropped tight on the lily would be a great shot!

  • For being such vibrant colors -  for some reason I like the B&W on no. 2.

Sometimes B&W does give a special feeling.

interesting comparisons...I like the b/w version best...next would be all the originals, sometimes you just can't mess with Mother Nature.

I also like the B&W the best.  I think it is due to such harsh lighting in the others.  Shooting in natural light is the best bet with flowers.  Also play with your settings.  To try to adjust the lighting.  I am not sure what you shot in but changing your shutter speed or your F-stops can make a huge difference.  If you are not sure about them.  Dig out your "Bible" othewise known as your manual and you will be surprised what you can come up with.  I have been shooting for quite sometime and I still will check my manual if I am stuck on something.  Or just ask here...lol

  • thanks for the input, the shadows that some of you mentioned were actually already there... i was shooting at dusk so the lighting was kind of off therefore the reason for the shadows
