I am continuing to work with lighting and now with the help of my wife, I have put together another batch of images... for all of you to see, and of course to provide feedback.... Here is what I had the settings at, f11 at 1/125th, and I was using a 70-200 lens.  As always any and all feedback is welcome..

I like the back lighting but I would like it better if the lighting on her face was even.  So there were no shadows around her eyes.  Your wife is a good sport and photogentic.   I think B&W was a good choice too

  • Well done. I especially like 3 for the composition and lighting. I'm going to differ with Penny and state that I like the fact that the lighting is not even. I'm going to paraphrase some famous photographer whom I can't remember and state that if you want interesting lighting, put something in the shadows.

  • I'm with #3 also - not only the lighting, but also her expression - she smiles with her eyes, and it's a beautiful thing!!

  • Another vote for #3 - well done!! ... Now for a few thoughts - I would have liked to have seen her sitting up in the chair a just a little bit more ... I would have liked to have seen a 'catch' light in her eyes ... You are doing a great job and you have a wonderful photogenic model!!  ... keep up the good work!!

beautiful eyes. I especially like the lighting playing off her hair and have to go with Penny, the shadows do bother me...especially the ones around her eyes...keep some of the shadow, but tone them down...great work, no way I could do that good!

  • I'm with Tom on the uneven lighting.  I do have to say that I think the harsh shadows around the eyes in 1 are a bit much and in that shot I agree with Penny.

But 3 is also my favorite, great comp.

Great job!  3 is my fav, love the expression.  They look great in b&w.  Have to agree about the eyes being dark. I think in the last one she is wrinkling her brow too much to look up at you.  She is a great model and has wonderful expressions and eyes.  :o)

And there you have it...some like shadows and some don't. What does your wife like since she's the subject? And what effect are you going for? These are lovely portraits and B&W does well here. I like #2 for the pose and #3 for the smiling eyes.
