  • I think you nailed the challenge with this post Rick! I love the silhouette effect in 'tree'. Great exposure technique. I can actually see the tree saying 'oooohhh' in the second one, and your reflection is a nice job of looking at something in a different way. As for the pan shot...is that an eagle on the branch next to the tree you were talking aboout? Wait! I think I see bigfoot!

I like OOOOOhhh is that a reflection in the water?   IMHO I don't care so much for the first one.  To me it could be a PS brush.  I know you didn't do that but that is my thought on it.  Sorry.

  • I'm with Penny on tree . . . to me it needs some gradation in the black to make it interesting. However, I think the reflection is nicely composed and a different view, as Bruce said.

  • Good post.  Wonderful addition to the challenge.

I actually liked tree in all its abstract.  And those next two were superb.  The next one really needs to be larger, and that has to do more with the site and less with the photographer.

  • tree was shot as a silouette with a little tweeking in ps then i saved it by pixel by pixel cutting it out and saved it to a white background.

  • nice shots. (I just have to do that now)

    • I appreciate the explanation for tree. I personally feel that the background is a little too bright, otherwise it is another in the middle that needs to be right in the middle.
    • The second I personally feel is a little washed out. Needs some brightening or contrast. I do like the subject and the comp in that one.
    • Three is it for me. The tones, the composition, the two leaves floating on top of the water.... and you can see to the bottom where older leaves have found their rest... My eyes are having a feast with that one, nothing detracting yet everything inviting. Just a great photo.
    • Excellent stitching in the last. Lovely panorama, especially if it was larger, but that is because of what Mr Quacker brought out.

    Nice work.

  • Reflection is my favorite, followed by the tree silhouette.  I caught the humor of "oooooooooooh ", but nearly missed seeing the pan shot - clicked on it three times before I noticed it had opened at the top of the page.  Also like your thumb.

    old guy

it got that white background when i saved it as a jpeg to send it to photographica. i saved it as a photoshop document on a transparent back ground. that way i can pull it off and drop it on any shot with intense backlight where i think i need something in the foreground to ground or give perspective to scene.

At first I didn't care much for 'tree'. Now that I've read all the comments, and your explanation, I have a greater appreciation for it. What a neat idea to save it with a transparent background for adding to other photos. And 9991 is a nice reflection shot. So much there to look at.
