Down by the creek

We're still in Chimayo today.  No more buildings, though.  I was a bit hard on myself when it came down to selecting the images to process and I weeded out a lot of shots from here.  But today I've decided to share a few shots I took while we played in the creek that afternoon.  I know two of them are inspired by a long lost photographica member.  I always loved his feather shots, but I just don't think I can do the subject the same justice that he does....

Feather 1         Feather 2

And the last shot for today just seemed too compelling not to take as I walked along the creek edge.  These rocks were lined up like this when I got to them.  Sometimes nature makes the best arrangement, so why mess with it?

Thanks for looking and remember:  Comments of all kinds are always welcomed!
Tomorrow, we start the actual camping sites as we head into Chaco Canyon.

Feather two is my pick.  I like rocks but find myself wanting to see more of it in focus.  I think a touch of contrast would help all of the shots.  They seem a bit flat.  I want to see them pop.  Try lightening up your neutrals.

  • I've been having SOOOOOOOOOOOO many problems in post processing.  It's been ridiculous to be honest.  And last night, I finally figured out what exactly I needed to do to get my color correct (lightroom did some funky-@$$ stuff to my RAW images...).  Of course, this is after I've already processed 80+ images.  So now I have to decide whether I want to go and re-process all or some of them.

But I'll look into it with these.  I wasn't quite satified with the contrast either... but it's all I could do with it at the time.  Maybe if I go back and try the stuff I found out last night it'll help with the contrast in these.  We'll see.

  • I like the feather nestled in the rocks.  Looks a little more forgotten, or maybe looking for shelter.

I like both the rock/feathers...I just learned that you can edit 1 image and then "sync" all the images shot under the same conditions. It saves some time.(in Lightroom)

  • I know.  That's what I started doing once I figured out what the hell was going on, but until I could actually get something to look right I was just messing with everything and settling for what looked OK (I want to get some 4x6's made before I go back to school to show them around work so I settled with looking decent because I figured when I got to school I could mess around with the ones I wanted to print larger in photoshop in the lab).
When I did the trial of Lightroom 1.3 (or whatever) I never had a single problem, but 2.0's been trying my nerves.  It probably doesn't help that I don't really know what I'm doing in there because I'm use to actual Photoshop.  Oh well, live and learn.

  • Oh yeah! My kind of shots. Feather number 1 does it for me.......a natural. And, excellent choice of B&W.

  • EF:  Where is Chaco Canyon?  What part of the world?  Great shots of the feathers.

  • Chaco Canyon is in New Mexico, west of Santa Fe.  If you're trying to google it, try typing in Chaco Culture.  My teacher constantly referred to it as Chaco Canyon, but it doesn't really go by that on maps and there's really not much of a canyon.... But when I was trying to show people where I was going/went I found that it was referred to on-line as Chaco Culture National Park.

  • The second image is my personal pick out of the three good job in picking out the B&W.

Feather 1 for me. The rocks almost overpower it then you see it, very good in b/w
