So, I took my bicycle on a 50 mile ride this weekend, and I took my camera with me. I kept my eyes open for wild flowers, for the current challenge, but it seemed that the time for flowers was  mostly past: Former Flower

I did eventually find a few flowers still in bloom, though:  Wild Flowers

Much later, when my wagon was draggin I decided to stop and take a few photos of a barn door:  A door

Boy are my legs sore.

  • I really like wildflower, but the door caught my attention right away.  I love the color in the door and contrast between the door and bricks. I am curious if that is a nest in the upper right corner above it?  It looks like it could be a fun shot to try at different times of the day.  Nice work

  • porchsitter,

I agree that it looks like a nest, but it's actually some old ivy, unfortunately, it just kind of petered out in a trail above the door, so I decided to crop it tightly to maximize the contrast.

To the both of you, thanks for the feedback!

  • That door is a great subject.... would like to see it shot at better light time of day to get it out of the shadows.... the purple flowers are nice and crisp!  The former flower shot has good DOF and composition....

  • Don't look like the wind is going to blow that door down. Old doors are interesting. I like this photo, the colors are superb and the vines add to your composition. I'd like to see this im B&W also.

Oddly enough, "thinning" is exactly why I do it! :-D

    duneshot,

That's an interesting idea - I was also playing with the "orton effect" and the door, maybe I'll try a few different effects and see how they look.

  • B&W is a great suggestion for the door.  I must say when I saw it in the thumbnail I was really drawn to, but when I opened a larger version, I thought the same thing as BSV.  It needs better light.  But I think you did a great job composing the image.

Also, Kudos to you for making it back from a 50 mile bike ride!

I give you credit for the 50 mile bike ride. Holy cow!  I need to do that....

BSV covered what I was going to say.   I also think that the door would look great in B&W with a tad more contrast.

love the lighting in you flower shots, I kind of would have like more of the building around the door so it wasn't so centered...as for the color...I like it just the way it is...congrats on the bike ride...wish I could go!

I really liked the former flower... nice composition with the flower in the upper third.  The dof is right on.  The wild flowers are really nice.  Very sharp focus and great color.  The old door is an interesting subject.  Nice colors.  I also would like to see it in lower, earlier or later light but nice subject.

After 50 miles on a bike, I wouldn't have been able to hold the camera, let alone shoot.  :)

  • I'm totally with trio, love the former shot.  Don't think I could even breath after half of your ride.
