That's right ladies and gents. Get ready for weeks of southwest shots. I don't guarantee any kind of excellence, but I would appreciate any all feedback on anything I post.
Today I'm starting with Chimayo. We didn't spend much time at all in Santa Fe. We basically just slept there for 3 nights and during the day we were constantly moving (and never really knew where we were going until 10 minutes before we left). So I don't have pictures of Santa Fe, but that's ok. I have LOTS of pictures of everywhere else I went. I'm not going to try and go into the back story of this place because it would get long and drawn out, but here is a link that you can find out all about it.
Now, to the pictures.
Bonus: Thumb (just an alley)
Again, comments, criticism and suggestions are always appreciated on my posts.
Have a great Monday!

"For Baby" is wonderfuland my fav from this set. Great perspective, B&W is perfect for the shot. "From the Back" cool building, really like the composition. Like the contrast between the more modern lower half, with the metal drain, conduit pipe and Burglery bars; against the upper half and it's weathered wood, and open windows. "Door to Chimayo" I would like to have seen head on with a tighter crop... at least, I think I would anyway. Neat looking place though. "resting Place" is neat, you didn't happen to get a close up of the window itself did you I was think how much it looks like a quirky curio case or a bird cage. Thumb makes me want to follow the road to see whats ahead!!
Great start looking forward to more!!

Wellllll...............what Ash said. For Baby is my favorite of the set. I would have liked the whole thing to be in focus with no DOF

For Baby is an interesting image. It works very well in B&W, because the lask of color makes you focus your attention on all the items in the shot and you don't get distracted by one colorful item. Having to consider all the stuff jumbled together really gives the image impact. I wonder what the significant of the shoes and baby items are, mixed in between all those rosaries?

I had to do a bit of research to find a well written explanation because we were told kinda haphazardly as we were walking out the door to the car that day, but I found this:
"In Chimayo, the most popular Santos figure is Santo Nino Atocha—a representation of the baby Jesus. It is believed that each night he leaves the chapel and travels throughout the district on errands of mercy, often wearing out his shoes in the process, which is why pilgrims bring baby shoes as an offering."
I knew it had something to do with the numerous amount of pilgrimage to Chimayo and the Baby Jesus, but knew I couldn't explain it well it enough to actually answer the question.

you've done a great job capturing the lighting with the adobe...baby shoes is so unusual.

Great shot. Very well composed. The standout shot, for me, was the thumb, all the angles are 'just right'

The one I like best is 'from the back'. There's something appealing in the angles and colors. All the colors seem to have a richness to them. And the focus is great.
