Saturday I went to the Sho-Ban Indian Festival at Fort Hall Idaho. I just thought I would share a few photos of the dancers. It is my first time at shooting moving people so any help would be great. There were so many colorful dancers it was hard deciding  where to point my camera. the teen girls dance , 3 dancers , 2 dancersdancer 1 , dancer 2 , The Littlest Warrior , The Littlest Warrior  Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy.

  • I'm also rotten on shooting people, moving or not.  I think what is needed is to try and isolate the subject, either with the background on shallow DOF.  You can see this is in dancer 1, you can see the costume in great detail, yetthe headdress is harder to make out.  In order to show movement, slow the shutter speed down and allow the people to blur (not too much or you'll never hear the end of it!)

Of these shots, I like girls dance that little warrior, cute (though don't tell him that!)

  • Very colorful event and is so hard to isolate and get just the subject--sure wish there little warrior was by himself in the last one...

  • Very colorful and sharp!

    Love the Native American culture.

Come by it naturally because my wife is part Native American.

Love the detail of what they are wearing.   I would suggest as high of shutter speed as possible to try to not get the movement.  As far as people in the background...well at some events you just can not help it.  But you didn't do too bad IMHO

  • I agree with all of the above.  Perhaps some post-processing on the b/grnd would help.  Especially Dancer 1 and Littlest Warrior.  Must have been a fun day.
