I have recently started shooting everything in RAW. Have to get more cards and a bigger external drive. RAW can even be adjusted in a simple little freebie, Picassa and the saved product becomes JPG while nothing happens to the RAW.
iPhoto has a built-in converter that you can't adjust. The software that came with my camera, ViewNX, is just bizarre. It seems to let me tweek the photo all I want, but it won't let me save the changes!
OT, you must be missing the step where to change the one you "fixed" to jpeg, the raw file stays forever unless you delete it. That way you can go back and change it over and over. Like a film negative. In lightroom you have to export it to a file and then go get it from there.
Amazing isn't it what can be done. Beautiful photo and thanks for the comparison.

What did you use to convert the raw photo?

Since I'm barely out of shooting everything on Automatic, I can't really appreciate what you've done - but the second photo is beautiful. Some day...
