No, not butt.... pronounce like Beaut. ex: She's a real beaut!
Now that's cleared up, I'll present to you the Fajade Butte! I don't know much about it, other than it's the other main attraction at Chaco aside from the ruins. You can see it from miles away as your driving into Chaco and it was actually used for astronomical purposes in the pueblo culture. People aren't allowed on it anymore, due to the fact that it has split and part of it has actually fallen (not necessarily to the ground, but it has shifted downward and this shift has actually affected the old astronomical uses). Pueblo tribes still go to the butte for ceremonial purposes and they are the only ones (other than archeologists and such) allowed to acutally go on the butte.
So there's the little I know about the butte. This is all from memory, so I may have gotten a few things wrong. If you want to know more, google is your best friend :-D
Comments, critiques and suggestions are my best friend ;-)
And as a bonus: The Butte in B&W
Have a great weekend everyone!

Yep.... she's a Butte......

Like the color fotos the best. I was thinking what a shot that would be if you could capture a lightening strike. Don't know if you are going to travel anywhere else in N.M. but if you get to the NW corner don't miss Shiprock. I lost all my shots of it before I had backup. You must be having a wonderful time. Enjoy & learn.

Oh, the trip is over and done. These were taken back early july. I've been back from the trip for 3 weeks. It just took me a while to filter through to pick the ones I liked best and then edit them.
But if I ever end up in NM again, I'll check it out.

I love the plain Butte. The isolation of the single object and the huge desert around it, no wonder it was used for astronomical purposes. The stormy looking clouds with the light breaking thru a hole in the sky is the bonus that makes the whole thing work for me. Excellent.

nice job. 'butte' is a standout, for exactly the reasons Kalole0 mentions above. That break in the clouds just makes the image perfect.

Gotta go with 'Butte' too ... That opening in the clouds to the heavens is just beautiful ... A great image!! ... Someone should frame it and hang it on a wall ... Hopefully after 'someone' has purchased it!! ... Well Done!! ... (I like the B&W too)

You've captured some beautiful scenery beautifully! I loved the first one, you can even see the rain coming down. But then I opened the second one, wow. The lighting on the face of the butte makes the shot a stand out. Good composition on all too. IMHO the b/w didn't do justice to the scenery.

Thanks for your opinion on the b&w grami. I couldn't tell. I liked the tones but I just couldn't decide. I shot a few more with b&w film, but I still have to wait a week to develop them :-/
