We took an overnight trip this weekend to Springfield.  I really didn't want to lug the slr around, so as per the instructions of ObviousTroll and his bi-weekly challenge, I did take the P&S.  Glad I did.  On our way back we drove a few miles out of our way to Bennett Springs State Park.  Beautiful spot, whether my pics prove it or not.  Here they are.  Trout fishermen exhibiting their passion.  This spot will get a return visit this fall and I'll take the real camera.

Looks like a beautiful place.  I love trout too!  The pics have really harsh light.  The white is blown out.  Even with a P&S you can usually set your shutter speed, ISO or even f-stops.  Depending on what setting you are shooting in depends on how you can fix the problem. Because we all know that we can not always shoot with the perfect light.  When this happens try different settings you can always pick the best of the shots.  I will see stuff on my camera that looks good then and when I see it bigger it is rotten.  So click away and pick the best.

  • Ahh the beauty of So. Missouri.  I'm not a trout fisherman but I love that country.  I agree w/Penny on some of the white being washed out.

  • I can hear the rushing water - - -

Probably a lower contrast lighting situation would have been better but sometimes its hard to be at the right place at the right time. Been there and done that many times.

  • Nice shots, didn't mind the blown outs too much.  I liked the third one best.

Question, on the first shot, what is the green line in the water, in front of the fisherman.

    MrQuackers,

I'm no fly fisherman but from watching for a few minutes, it looks like they retrieve the line by hand to entice the fish.  This creates slack that lays in the water.  This fisherman had a trout hooked and the line was flourescent green that he had retrieved and was still floating out to the side.

Yep, the whites were blown out.  We got there about noon...really bright sun and the fishermen were wearing light colors so, I knew the light was going to be hard to handle.  When I go back, hopefully I'll have more time.  Thanks for looking.

  • P&S is perfect. You certainly don't want to weigh yourself down with your full set of gear when you're fishing.  Very nice shots- a polarizer might help with the over exposed highlights.
