Unfortuntaley there's not a lot to Canyon de Chelley except the designated overlooks they provide for you.  Because it is Navajo land, there aren't many hiking trails that you can take and the only way to get to the canyon floor is with a navajo guide.  So sorry if these seem touristy, that's all they give you there.  But I thought a few were worth sharing.

Some Canyon Overlooks:  1    2    3    4

Tomorrow some more canyon overlooks... only I think they're just a bit different.  And I want to thank everyone who's been leaving such nice comments on all my other posts.  Keep 'em coming, any kind of comment is welcome!

  • I love them all.  Tourists take a lot of pictures and appreciate them all.  Tourists do not get to travel so much these days with gas prices, so I appreicate it more than anything.  really beautiful

  • Been to Canyon de Chelly and I know what you mean about trying to get pics without having to take the jeep ride to the bottom of the canyon. Rip off. Hope you did get pics of Spider Rock. When there I had a original Rebel with 300mm lens on camera so did get some shots of lower down in canyon from rim.

  • We did take a jeep ride, but most of my shots were with the film down there or of the pictographs with my 650mm lens. But the road to spider rock was flooded from it raining every night for a week straight and we didn't get to drive up to it.  But I do have a few from the overlook.

  • EF, I haven't explored that area yet, so I really enjoyed your photos and commentary.

Noted Navajo artist R.C. Gorman was born in Canyon de Chelly (AZ) and grew up on the Navajo Reservation.  His paintings were my inspiration to learn to paint.

wow, beautiful country. My fav is the last one. It's lovely and it reminds me of a scene in an old western. I can just see the cowboys riding down the canyon.
