nearly every day at lunchtime my red dragonfly friend comes back to hang out while i water my plants.
his favorite roost is a tall spiky sanseveria (mother-in-laws-tongue) overlooking the water trough.
today, he and his ladyfriend were both there. she was busy flicking the water with her tail laying her eggs in the reeds, and, wanting nothing to do with my interruption she promptly flew away.
but, him, i swear he was smiling.

i would never squish him! he's my friend... he let me get so close i was breathless trying not to scare him. he comes every day to sit while i water. he's been here all summer. i've even shoo-ed the cats away from him. it's been a crazy experience!
