I'm finally getting to my film shots from my southwest trip. School has picked up faster than I anticipated and although I've had my film developed for many weeks I haven't been able to do anything with it. I've scanned some negatives here and there but haven't gotten to print (I thought I'd be able to do that today, but alas work has called to me and I'm here instead).
But I thought I would share some of the ones I've scanned. I've found that scanning the images that I think I may like from the contact sheets really helps confirm or dismiss my original liking of an image. By doing it this way, I save grief, money and time in the darkroom. I never thought digital would help me so much. I still intend to print a lot of these by hand in the darkroom, but the digital darkroom is definitely helping me narrow my selection. And also enlightening me on a small mini series I have in the making:
Most of these were taken in Canyon de Chelly (and as you can see in two there are a few ruins. They look like toy buildings and it's hard to imagine they're big enough to house whole families from the pictures) although one is from Chaco. And these are just from 3 out of my 8 rolls of film. Like I said... a mini series in the making. I wish I could print today... after scanning these in yesterday (I had the lack of motivation to print, so I decided to still be a little productive in my endeavor) I got excited about a few. Oh well, guess I'll have to start Monday.
All taken with Ilford FP4 iso 64, developed 1:3 in ID-11, negatives scanned digitally.

I admire those who are still doing it in the dark.
I do, occasionally, get in and get my hands wet.
Never could use them, rubber tipped, plastic tweezers.
Wonderful textures!

lol, mack! Funny you should mention those things. I'm an oddity in our darkroom because I'm the only one who uses them. I was taught in my basic class (one that I didn't take at the school I'm attending now) to avoid touching the chemicals if possible and they had those to use. When I got to MTSU everyone was like, "NO! Just use your hands. It's ok!" But I went and bought myself a pack of three when I took my first class there. I do occasionally use my hands, but it's just one of the few things I do differently because of my first class from Tallahassee. Some habits are just hard to break.

Very nice shots! Those would make great textures. 3 is my favourite, those streaks are spiffy.
Just out of curiosity, what do you mean when you say "scanned"? Can you actually use a normal computer scanner on negatives to preview them on your PC? O.o

They are all very nice. Number 3 is my favorite as I like the perspective. I admire anyone who uses film anymore giving the additional cost, but it probably makes you more deliberate in what you shoot and to take your time to get things right when you do shoot. Love the photos, please keep them coming.

Well... some scanners do allow you to do that Paul, but I used an actual film scanner (Nikon Scan 9000 or something like that). The photo lab has a few of them and they scan 120 and 35mm color negative, color positive, and b&w negative. We also have a flatbed scanner that can scan in 4x5 negatives & color positives.
