Ok, I lied

I said I'd be back next week with the zoo shots... But I find myself with a day off, my car being worked on and I'm at the local coffee shop waiting for lunch with Michael. Might as well make a post since I'm here, right?
Right.
So today we'll look at the ring-tailed Lemurs. I haven't been able to get good shots of them the previous two times, cloudy days and too much movement. But not this day. They were posing and showing off and just having a good time.
Next week I'll finish up the zoo with some cats and a primate. Thanks for looking and have a fantastic weekend!

I love going to the fair to see the animals. We saw horses, cows, chickens, rabbits, pigs, a A BIT OF WHIMSY
This collection of shots for the most part seems a bit offbeat, but perhaps interesting enough for a smile or two.

Tropic World
Brookfield zoo has a 3 part indoor primate exhibit, which is very large and gives the animals a lot of room to be themselves. It is built like a huge pit and you walk a path around and look down for most of the views. It has a huge skylight which is the main source of light. It leaves alot of shadows and isn't always great for pics. I did manage to get these pictures the other day.Our Polar Bears are like our Chicago Bears...full of
Bear With Me, Please
There is a bar very near our place up at Crivitz that puts out feed for the bears. I shot these pictures of them on Saturday June 3rd. Other than "Up The Tree", they were shot through the windows of the establishment. Therefore, you may notice reflections, and/or dirty windows. In "Up the Tree", you will see four silhouettes. Those are the cubs wa-a-a-ay up in the tree. It's rather amusing how this goes about. The bar owners put sunflower seeds in the cover of a fifty-five gallon drum that is on the ground.
The sow and her four cubs eat from the cover.
You can only see three, but believe me, there are four! After "mom" thinks the cubs have had enough, she sends them
climbing. They get
higher and higher until they are way
Up the Tree. The sow then returns to the cover to eat. If she eats all that is on the cover and she hasn't had her fill, she walks to the tree that the cubs are in and stares at the door of the bar. At this point, Mabl, the bar owner, quickly goes out and puts more seeds on the cover and rushes back inside. (Isn't she the brave one?) Now "mom" returns to the feast,
lies down and
eats to her heart's content. When she has had her fill, she stands at the base of the tree that houses the cubs, "calls" them down and off they go.

Picking a favorite was really difficult, because I have favorites for different reasons, not so much because of good photography, but because of memories etc...so I decided to let my daughter pick for me and she said these three:

#3
Bonus; yesterday on my birdfeeder I saw an
Indigo Bunting.Every picture I got of it was in the shade, I am going to try to catch it in the sun soon, to really show off the color.
Nature Wild - Elk
Dee & I Just Got Back From A Weekend Trip To Elk County, Pennsylvania To Look For Wild Elk. We Spent All Day Saturday Looking And Spotting For Elk, Then By Late Afternoon Mother Nature Gave Us A Gift When I Spotted A Bull Elk Bedded Down In The Grass On A Hillside. Notice That The Elk Has Shed His Winter Coat And Is Also Growing New Velvet Covered Antlers. The Antlers Will Continue To Grow Untill Fall, Then The Bull Elk Will Rub All The Velvet Off His Antlers As The Rutting Season Begins. NATURE RULES!!! I Believe These Shots Will Also Qualify For The New Bi-Weekley Challenge, Natural Light.
More Door County - The Farm
My first trip to Door County was with my 9 year old, who enjoyed all the exploring we did (and put up with a lot of boring site-seeing), so I made sure we did something that she would enjoy. Despite the hot July day that it was, we ventured our way to a place in Sturgeon Bay called The Farm, where we wandered around the grounds checking out all the animals. Here are a few of my favorite pictures...

So we also spent part of Easter at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. It was very different going to the park with kids. Less rides, more shows. But lots of fun. What I loved were the vibrant colors. Take a peek at the photos and tell me what you think!
ahhhhh! watch out!! (yep, that's an arrow up there...)
