A Bit of Blue

By Phantoms Wife written 5/5/08 10:56 AM, published 5/6/08 7:47 AM

These salt and pepper Shakers are relics from the 1920s Millionaire's Motel in Jekyll Island. It is somehow enticing to think that J.D. Rockefeller passed the pepper to a friend in this bit of Blue glass. Hey, kids, as close as I will ever get to a millionaire, I suspect.

Went for the classic  Blue Jeans and Blue Marbles,

Hear the Lonesome Whistle Blow at Calico Rock

Looking down this Popup LinkTrack along the River at  Popup LinkCalico Rock always makes me think of the end of "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" where George Clooney, Holly Hunter, and the little Whurvey girls walk across.... see what I mean?

Going south on Highway 5, you cross this
Popup LinkLong Two Lane Bridge over the White River.  Not much to do in town, maybe look at some Popup LinkAntiques or sit down for a Popup LinkPlate Lunch.  Then the Popup LinkPatchwork Asphalt will take you away from the past... away from Calico Rock....

Hope you enjoyed a peep at a little place time has forgotten!

To Popup Link C-A-M-A we go...

Since I only have weekends to shoot, I usually try to go out on a photo hunt on Saturday. I spotted the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association while on my way from one spot to the other. This wasn't part of my outing, and I hadn't planned on stopping here, but I'm glad I did...

This is a 1909 H.K. Porter steam locomotive. Here is the Popup Link narrow gauge track it used to run on. It's only 3 feet wide.

They had this Popup Link windmill on their lawn, so I shot it.

Someone Elses Childhood Treasures

By Penny written 1/15/06 7:30 PM, published 1/15/06 7:30 PM
My cousins Grandma (other side of the family)started a Popup Linkcollection of  Popup Linkbuttons when she was little.  When she passed away years ago.  (I think in her 80's) She had  Popup Linkmany, many containers and five gallon buckets full of Popup Linkbuttons.  I was happy when my cousin told me she got some for me.  I think several of you out there remember a button Popup Linkbox that maybe your Grandma had.  So many colors, textures, shapes and sizes. She even had old mattress buttons.  My favorite ones were from what we think was maybe a old Baptismal dress.   I hope Popup Linkthese brought back some memories.

We have many family favorite Christmas Tree ornaments, but there is one that is my absolute favorite.  It is an old antique Popup Linkpaper angel that is barely in one piece.  I always have to place the angel in a special place on the tree.

Last week end we made our annual trip to the Firemans Popup LinkMemorial Firefighters from all over the state are there.  We Popup Linkcamp while we are there.  We had nine sights between our group.  At camp we played some pretty serious games of Popup Linkpolish horseshoes On Friday night they have a silent Popup Linklight parade  Saturday morning is the actual Memorial service.  The wall and the Popup Linkstatue are something to see.  I wish I had a better close up to show.  Then we go to the full blown all lights and sirens blaring parade.  There are over 100 entries of
Popup Linkold firetrucks and Popup Linknew firetrucks. I liked this shot of the gadgets  Popup Linkon new truck.
