Constitution Day

By Lidljo written 9/18/06 2:29 PM, published 9/18/06 2:29 PM
Today was Constitution Day at school, so we had a special bulletin board explaining the constitution to the children, and a place for them to sign a scroll with a quill and ink.  We also watched a special DVD explaining the constitution in children's language.  I gather that this is suppose to be a National Day in schools to better acquaint our young people with the Constitution of the United States.  I worked at this today, but my Third Graders had a hard time understanding what this means to them.

Photo Shoot with Kirstin

By tomnorth written 8/6/06 8:24 PM, published 8/6/06 8:24 PM
Kirstin and I went on a shoot today in the Popup LinkNorth Loop neighborhood in Minneapolis. We found remnants of the Popup Linkold wood block roads abutting the cobblestones.  We also found what appear to be Popup Linkone hundred year old shoes and pottery shards in an excavation area for a new building.  Kirstin was weirded out by that.  By the quantity of shoes I suspect it must have been a shoe factory.  The Popup Linklate day light coming through the Popup LinkInternational Harvester Building was beautiful.

Earlier this week I showed an old Dutch street to demonstrate texture and someone suggested that I straighten the picture - here is the Popup LinkOld street straightened.  I also posted some yellow orchids that BusyB suggested that I rework -  Popup LinkYellow orchids reworked.  Someone in the past couple days showed a nastursiam leaf (not sure of spelling)  and I had these that looked similar - Popup LinkOrange Beauties.

“Your typical city involved in a typical daydream”

I’ve been trying to walk over to the Popup Link Chrysler Popup LinkBuilding during my lunch hour and get close-ups of the beautiful Popup Linkart Popup Link deco building.  It’s about a 20 minute walk from my office, but I keep getting distracted by otherPopup Link joyfulPopup Linkobjects of reflection.

“joyful” is Don Phillip’s composition from his 1946 NYC post, photo number 6.
It is 500 Fifth Ave shot from the steps of the NY Public Library, built by the same architect and in the same year as the Empire State Building.

Grand Valley University Arches

I saw this view last March when we were doing the architecture challenge, but I could not get back downtown to take the picture until this past weekend.  I had to make Wim park illegally for a brief time so that I could take the picture because there was no where to stop or park nearby. and it was too far for me to walk back to this spot.  Let me know which one is the best one, please.

NYC Sight Seeing - Columbus Circle

By Pablo57 written 6/13/06 4:56 PM, published 6/13/06 4:56 PM
I love to take lunch time photo mini vacations. June 13, 2006 Q train from 34th and 6th to 59th Street. A ten minute subway ride and I'm in Columbus Circle, NYC, where Broadway meets 8th Ave at 59th Street.  I remember visiting the Car Show at the Coliseum on this site as a little boy.

Popup LinkHop on the uptown loop bus as we tour Columbus Circle.  Within the last year the Popup LinkTime Warner Center opened which contains shops, office space and a state of the art concert venue devoted exclusively to jazz.  Across the street is a Popup LinkGlobe in front of the Popup LinkTrump International Hotel and Tower.

Popup LinkColumbus Circle is the South West gateway to Central Park. In the photo, the gold statue is the entrance to the park.  Lincoln Center is located a few blocks north, (left in the photo), of here.  The Plaza Hotel is located a few blocks to the east (right in the photo) on 5th Ave.  Trump Tower, a different tower, is located close by on 5th and 57th street.  The Popup Linkfountain in Columbus Circle is a nice place to relax.  Note the use of a magazine to shade the sun.  It is a fashion catching on through NYC.

Comedic Interlude - Here is a fashionable fellow in Sea Breeze Park two days ago wearing his Brooklyn version of a Popup Linkmagazine sun visor.  A  serendipitous sea breeze appeared at the time of this shot.

I took a trip to Wilmington, NC for Memorial weekend.  It was a time to gather with family and enjoy the sights.  I was able to visit the beach and the historic downtown areas.  Take a look and let me know what you think.

Old and New on the Mississippi

By tomnorth written 5/27/06 9:24 PM, published 5/27/06 9:24 PM
Tonight we drove downtown with friends to walk along the Mississippi.  The new Popup LinkGuthrie Theatre is going in there.  We love to take in Popup Linklive theatre at the Popup LinkGuthrie. The theatre is in the Popup Linkhistoric mill district. This old Popup Linkburned out mill is actually a museum called the Mill City Museum.  If you're ever in Minneapolis I highly recommend taking it in.

The above two Photographs are the same picture.  I started of course with the color photo, and because I hadn't gotten past some of my limitations I had problems with the white balance and the lack of a tripod.  After playing with the color photo with the limited tools I have here.  I desided to just convert it to black and white.
It is a little better than it was.

Its really not Florida?

By Art written 5/4/06 4:45 PM, published 5/4/06 4:45 PM
Sometimes to keep your spirits up you just got to joke about the place.  My response sometimes is I thought I was in Florida.  Oh my mistake.  These sunsets at least have some of the elements of Florida, we have palm trees, a beach sort of and a body of water(rats its not the Atlantic).
Well I hope you at least enjoy the Photos.
