[editor's note, by codepoit] REMINDER: The voting period is open until 11:59 PM on Saturday January 21...it's not too late to vote!
[editor's note, by codepoit] Another note: The submission period is over...no more entries please :)

(To view or place a vote for one of the categories, just click on the one you want in the "tags" section located at the top of this post. Thank you.)

If anyone wants to participate in this theme without entering into the contest, feel free to do so. Simply state somewhere in your post you do not wish to enter the contest. All participants are welcome.

Here are the rules.

We have 6 categories:
Best of 2005 Portrait
Best of 2005 Nature
Best of 2005 Building & Structures
Best of 2005 Things
Best of 2005 Animals
Best of 2005 Abstract

Anyone who wants to participate chooses only one category to enter and only 1 photo for that category.

To enter the contest put in the title of your entry post "Best of 2005 Entry(insert category here)". That way we could tag them appropriately to keep them separated.

Example: Say I wanted to enter a photo for the category Portrait. In the title of the post I would put "Best of 2005 Entry Portrait". We will special tag it "Best of 2005 Entry Portrait". That way it would be easy to look at all the categories individually for easier judging and voting.

To vote just place a comment in the post you want to vote on. Only 1 vote per category per person. Feel free to comment on any entry post. If you are voting on the picture, then write the word "vote" first in the comment. (!!!ATTENTION!!! UPDATE:Anonymous Hero votes will not be counted due to the nature of cheating. You must have an account to vote. Sorry.)

All entries for this theme and contest will take place for a 2 week period (just the same as a bi-weekly theme).

I will personally make an award for the winners myself. Afterwards I will send them to the winners if they choose to receive one(this is an option).

All submittions are due by 11:59pm(PST) on Saturday, January 14,2006. Any submittion after that time will not be entered in contest.

The next theme will start on Sunday, January 15,2006 as planned.

Voting period will end at 11:59pm(PST)on Saturday, January 21,2006. No vote will be accepted after this time.

Winners will be announced on Sunday, January 22,2006 after votes are counted.

Have fun and good luck! The next bi-weekly theme goes to Paulamouse.

This is a Popup Linkcreek reflection in the desert. The creek is usually dry but it had rained so much that it washed another part of the creek out and over the road. This part made a pool and stayed for a while. It's so dry in my part of Texas, it's unusual to find water!

I shot this photo last summer. My garden was full of a variety of flowers and we had a butterfly fountain and hummingbird feeders. I would sit out in the morning, drinking my coffee, and would greet the visitors to my garden. This is one of my favorites. Popup LinkPeaceful Rest

I haven't shown this before, and my husband doesn't agree with me, but I like this picture.
My brother-in-law was watering his beautiful flowers and sudden he called me over to look at this unusual caterpillar.  I had never seen anything like it before and just had to take a picture of Popup LinkIt!.  I hope you like it also.

I try to get something out of every photo I take, even the ones that just don't do what I wanted to do. Learn from mistakes yada yada yada, so, all shots are in some way good, choosing just one was very hard.
So I found Popup Linkthis one and thought yes, I like sunsets, always have. No two are alike. The next question I had is what catagory to place it in. Nature I suppose, but this is also a portrait of my wife, it says something about her, she is my main fishing partner and best friend. In fact, some of our best times together as a couple happen in our little boat. I can see all of this in that photo, so, to me, this should be a portrait. However, I think most folks would see this as a nature photo, you see the sunset before you see my wife, therefore I choose to place this in the nature catagory.

This is my first post and decided to enter it into the Best Of 2005 challenge. This was taken at Waimea Bay on Oahu's North Shore on 31 Dec.

It was very difficult to choose one, the other photos I took may be better so I just picked one to submit.

This is certainly a challange for me. The category was easy, but choosing the shot was tough as I have several favorites. One thing that made me lean to this shot is that it was done in our garden and the butterfly is not an everyday find. The thumbnail was my second choice.
