Mostly not flowers...

I've been going through some more of my macro shots from October. The first one is a dewy b&w, though I didn't think it was interesting enough to be a good challenge entry really. :P The next is another one of those curious green things, water does interesting things when it gets on those. XD

Lastly some wintery berries, and an extremely tiny flower.

Multnomah waterfall

The multnomah waterfall is one of the tallest continual flowing waterfall in the US. It is only about a mile from the Wahkeena waterfall. It is odd that in all my trips to Portland I did not know about this place until one of the Sales Reps from a local distributor told me about it.

 From the parking lot

 Falls 1

 Falls 2

For kicks I tried taking this one with the walkway lights on. It was taken not very long after Falls 2. Both were taken after sunset with little light.

On a Sunday Drive

This past Sunday Michael and I decided to explore the area where his house is.  We had time to kill and nothing to do around the house so we hopped in the car for a little drive.  I quickly grabbed my camera just in case, even though Michael warned that he might not stop for just anything.  It was a good thing I brought it anyway because on our drive we found the Clarkson Covered Bridge.  It's a beautiful area.  We'd seen signs from the main highway and knew it was in the area but we're so happy we found it.  It has beautiful picnic areas and waterfalls here and there.  Definitely a place to revisit.  I didn't get very many pictures, but I did get a few of the bridge.

And it's fall, so who can resist a shot of the leaves?

Thanks for looking and have a great weekend everyone!

Here are the results of my most recent trip to the city sports complex of all places. The first thing i passed was a bridge in disrepair , and it screamed black and white as i walked by.

And next is something curly , something fuzzy , something berry , and something blue .

I went to check out the matinee of the new Bond movie at the neighborhood movie house and ended up walking down the alley behind the theater to get there....it struck me as a place to snap a few shots for the challenge...I took several in the alley...didn't end up with what I'd hoped, but these were the ones I liked the most. vista_alley1  vista_alley2

The theater  vista   has one of the best sound systems in town & the interior would be great to shoot one day...

it's on the far east end of Hollywood Blvd, where it intersects with Sunset. hw_and_ss2  hw_and_ss1 I took a few angles and depths...liked these the most...

and just up the street, the barber shop shot is probably better in color Rudy_s ...the actual sun was right behind this sun sculpture... el_chavo_sun

My old 35mm baby finally "died", and I decided to make the jump to digital. I  am so thankful to my local camera shop guy for seeing how much I love what I do, and for getting me a great deal on a Nikon D40x. So here are my other 2 babies, being their cute selves Bubba and Cutie . Then I raided my neighbors garden for a rose when it rained, and after a little photoshop fun, my Blue Rose . And lastly, to get into the spirit,  x-mas train . Thanks for looking, and comments, critiques, and advice always welcome!

Janet and I had taken a trip to San Diego as you know ,and while we were coming back home to Sacramento, we visitied the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey. Super nice building and lots to look at.

Here is a group of Sea Nettles, and here's one alone.

Check this odd one out... it's an Egg Yolk Jelly fish.

One of my favorites... a Blue Tang. So much color on these fish. Wonderful place to shoot.

 Forgotten

Listen to the sound
Dizzy from the ups and downs
I’m nauseated by the polluted rot that’s all around
Watching the wheels of cars that pass
I look past to the last of the light and the long shadows it casts
A window grows and captures the eye
And cries out a yellow light as it passes me by
And a young shadowy figure sits in front of a box
Inside a building of rock with antennas on top, now
Nothing can stop in this land of the pain
The sane lose not knowing they were part of the game
And while the insides change
The box stays the same and the figure inside could bear anybody’s name
The memories I keep are from a time like then
I put on my paper so I could come back to them
Someday I’m hoping to close my eyes and pretend
That this crumpled up paper can be perfect again

You can definitely count me among those who are not-so-much b/w fans - rarely take them, and rarely see photos I think are at their best without color.

However, I am up for a challenge, so here are a few attempts:

   guitar                   weeds                     clouds

What, you ask, does that have to do with the title??  This last one is one I thought begged to be in b/w.  It is a sculpture at the United Nations in NYC.

I never shoot b&w and am just learning to use my camera in manual mode - can't say that I like either at this point.

I didn't shoot these specifically for this challenge, but they are very recent.  Both were taken with a little point and shoot, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3, which turned out to be a completely unexpected surprise.  It's a great take-everywhere camera with very good image quality.  I took it and my D300 out over the weekend and the D300 never made it out of the camera bag.

So I got a new camera. It's a fuji Finepix s1000. It's the nicest camera I've ever owned and I'm pleased as punch. I'm still reading the booklet and figuring out all the stuff it can do. I'm so used to point and click this adjusting stuff is new to me. 2008_0304bnc0005.JPG  2008_1030bnc0001.JPG  2008_1030bnc0081.JPG  2008_1116bnc0022.JPG  2008_1116bnc0081.JPG  2008_1116bnc0091.JPG  2008_1116bnc0111.JPG

So, in the true spirit of this B&W project that pyro has set upon us, I grabbed the camera, set it on the B&W setting swearing not to even think in color, got on the bicycle and headed to Neary Lagoon to shoot. The pics I have posted so far were from my archive and were actual shots that I converted to B&W back when they were taken. These are fresh, shot today. The mud hen thanks you...
