In Praise of Blue

By Phantoms Wife written 5/9/08 7:09 PM, published 5/9/08 7:09 PM

Obviously, blue was abundant at the Boatyard , where a Sailboat or a Fishing Boat fit the bill.

I found a  Rivulet of blue in the midst of the mud flats, a bit of blue decorating this year's Sage,

And, of course, I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill

Thunder on the Gulf

By stormy written 8/21/06 2:40 PM, published 8/21/06 2:40 PM
Every August Popup Linkbeach goers and boats come to watch the  Popup Linkboat races or  Popup LinkThunder on the Gulf.  Even the Popup Linkbugs joined in the fun.  I am not sure what  Popup Linkboat the bugs were cheering for but they were having the time of their lives.  Just for protection Popup LinkFire and Rescue along with the Coast Guard were there to help in case of a problem.  I am glad to see that these Popup Linkguys relaxing and having a good time because they work very hard!  The beach was full of people that the Popup Linkchairs at the pool were empty.  On our way home I caught a something Popup Linkpink.

I know that some of the pictures are grainy.  I think this is due to the fact that I was trying to shoot from a distance and didn't have enough zoom to get a perfect ungrainy picture.  Anyway I hope you enjoy.  The race was fun like it is every year.

My wife and I recently went on vacation to Door County Wisconsin.  It is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been, and we've been many places.  The sunsets there are the most beautiful I've ever seen.Popup LinkSunset These photos were taken at Sister Bay, exept for the lighting photo.Popup LinkLightning Shot It was taken one night near Gills Rock.  This is my first story here.  I hope you enjoy reading it and looking at my pictures.  I have certainly enjoyed looking at your pictures.  Thank You!

Having Fun at the Beach

By stormy written 8/3/06 7:00 AM, published 8/3/06 7:00 AM
It all started on Sunday when we went down to Orange Beach.  My oldest daughter Laura wanted to go play on the sand.  While walking down to the beach we came across a
Popup Linksand dune.  Our next stop would be the Popup Linkrocks.  Laura thought it would be really funny to  Popup Linkclimb on the rocks.  As we sat on the rocks the Popup Linkfishing boats started to come in from the Gulf of Mexico into the pass after a hard day of fishing.  Not on one of those boat but on our own darling husband and two of our girls caught this Popup Linkbig red snapper.  The end of a perfect couple of days at the beach we decided to go to the Popup LinkFerris Wheel.  Have you ever wonder what the person in the gondola sees when they are waiting for the ferris wheel to take off and start?  This is what I Popup Linksaw.  And right next to me is my darling  Popup Linkthree year old who made me get on this ferris wheel despite my fear of heights.  As we left the view of the Popup Linkferris wheel came in many inviting colors of lights

Racing away........

I was asked by one of the coaches of our high school crew team to take some photos for their display case at the school.  I wandered down to the boat house to check things out before I took photos of the team in action.  These are some test shots of the boat house and the shells.  Let me know what you think.

Trying out the new zoom

By jellybean written 1/7/06 4:11 AM, published 1/7/06 4:11 AM
So I went out and tried out the zoom on my new camera to see what I could get.  Some pictures were okay, some were well......crap.  Sigh!  It probably didn't help I was chasing after my two boys at the same time.  So here we go:

Popup Linkdepth of sky  I like this one because (to me) the sky seems to have such depth to it.

Popup Linkdark and sinister...  This one was shot just a few minutes later.  Interesting how fast everything can change!

Popup Linkacross the river  I was trying to see how far across the river I could zoom stuff.  The birds were feeding and I wanted to see if I could get a close up.

Popup Linkfor fun  LOL-this is what I was chasing after while taking pictures.  They had a blast watching the boats and birds.

Popup Linkthe big house I love this house across the river.

Popup Linkthe boat  I took this photo for two reasons: 1. I like boats. 2. to show the width of the river I was shooting across.  See those trees?  That is where the house above is located.

Okay, let me know what you think!

Port of Newport, Oregon

By ClassyShots written 10/27/05 8:10 AM, published 10/27/05 8:10 AM

Hi all,

I bet you thought you were rid of me. I've been here as a lurker but too busy to post but I have been keeping any eye on you. As for the current theme... if I told you all about me I'd end up banned from the site ;-)

Anyway... went over to Newport last weekend to shoot some stuff for stock. Here are some of the results. Day one was sunny... Popup LinkBoats Popup LinkNet on deck.  Popup LinkSunset wasn't bad. Woke up to a Popup LinkCloudy morning.   Popup LinkThe fog rolled in and Popup LinkHung around.  Popup LinkThe gulls did stick around.

While the sun was out I did find some bright colors on Popup LinkThese floats.  Popup LinkThese were kind of bright too. The floats will end up attached to crab pots like these Popup LinkNew pots or maybe as replacements in some Popup Linkused ones. Some you see are  Popup Linkvery used.

Anyway... Have fun and keep on shooting. I'm off to Reno next week to shoot some night shots for stock. Just love the neon at night. Results when I return.

A boat's life

By jellybean written 9/19/05 12:58 PM, published 9/19/05 12:58 PM

I have recently discovered a marina near my house.  I love to go wandering around it with my camera taking pictures like crazy.  It is so peaceful and quiet.  The river is the Occoquan River and the marina is Beaumont Bay, VA.  I hope to upload several more from the marina and along the shore.  It has really become a place to go when I need my battery recharged!Popup LinkDESCRIPTION_HERE

The next stop on our tour is on the waterfront.  The San Diego Maritime Museum on the Embarcadero...

The Museum consists of a couple of square riggers, ferry boats, an aircraft carrier (USS Midway), a Russian Submarine and a few old yachts thrown in for good measure.
