Still in the green murk I found a family of Common Moorhens , one chick, another chick, and something lurking not far away was this fella. I sat and watched for a long time thinking this guy was gonna fetch himself breakfast of moorhen delight but when I left it left also, in my direction. Hmmmm
Thanks for lookin'! Have a wonderful day and for those that have Memorial Day-have a great three day weekend!
...I forgot I had these images uploaded here, so thought I'd go ahead and post them....just some more of my feathered friends from where else? Brazos Bend State Park. Wish the rain would go away and the sun come a shinin' because I'm ready to go back!
Thanks for looking!
Last of my Friday.....
...so now it's time to go back :)
I have no idea why they call the White-Faced Ibis that, as even in it's summer color I see no white! White Faced Ibis-(winter color)
Green Bearded Alligator (I was going to go clear some of that dead grass out around him, but thought, noooo I'd better stay back here)
Friday Hang Out
I set out to Brazos Bend a little bit later in the morning than I would have liked. It was a day expected to warm up to 80 and I knew the alligators would be out. Just a few on my first trek. Walking along the trail to get to 40-acre lake there I spotted a Red Bellied Woodpecker . Once out to the lake there was a hungry Snowy Egret eating a crayfish for breakfast. Looking up into the sky a trio of White Ibis came into view. I'll stop here with the pics. I usually quit at four, so will continue my outing with you next go around. Needless to say it was a great morning and I saw lots of birds I'd never seen before. I had only seen about 10 of the over 300 alligators they have there. But that's A.O.K. by me!!
A sunnier day....
...at Brazos Bend. Jan. 2 was a much sunnier day. So in the afternoon my husband and I decided to go see what the park was like during the day on a weekend. Well, if your a people watcher it's a great place to go...the place was packed! So we did more hiking than photo shooting, got 4 miles in. This lady we saw just wore too much orange lipstick . We ran into a tree that grows White Ibis . Then we were walking along- when- I spy (?) ............. answer .
I think I'll stick to my early morning trips out there. ;)
I have a new love.....
....and it's Brazos Bend State Park. On New Years Day, I woke early like always. The sun was "suppose" to be out that day. I looked out into the dark and could tell the sky was cloudy. But I thought by the time I got down there, which takes an hour, maybe the clouds would burn off.....NOT. It was in the low 40's and windy, but I enjoyed the whole time I was out there, just me and nature, alone....well except the one birder and two other photographers I had to share the 5000 acres with. Here are just a few shots I captured...it was quit challenging for me to shoot on this gloomy morning.
bluebird (I have only seen 2 in Texas in the 28 years I've lived here!)
Thanks for looking folks!!
A few feathered friends
Was out at Brazos Bend State Park again last week and saw a few of some of my favorite birds out there-ones that never come to my yard. Woodland birds are my absolute favorite.
Haven't taken the time to ID this one but thought he was cute.
There were plenty of these titmice in the same tree as the chickadees.
Thanks for looking.
