Barns, Bridges, and Bad Weathermen!

By loweho written 2/3/08 4:24 AM, published 2/3/08 1:03 PM
Well, the weathermen were wrong!  I got up expecting 6-9 inches of snow... more like 1-2 inches.  It was supposed to be partly sunny in the morning so I was expecting to get some sun behind the Bridgeton Covered Bridge(about a 30 mile drive for me) but it was gloomy and cloud covered.  But I had Jaryd, coffee, and some good sounds (Thanks to Pablo) so we waited and watched the water flow over the dam for awhile but the sun never peeked out till after we left there.  I would have gone back but we had moved on and also had to pick Barb up at work.  I didn't get the shot I came after but it was a blast to get back out and shoot something and the sun did eventually come out later.

Washed out  Liked the scraggly clump of trees but was never satisfied with the actual shot so I kept increasing exposure to lighten snow... still didn't care for it so I just went overboard with the exposure and got this watercolor look.  Don't think I'd hang it on the wall but it's at least more interesting than the original.

These are a couple I uploaded the other day but didn't post.  They're just desktop setups I was playing with when I couldn't get out and about.

p.s. Pablo, they got baptized on the backroads of Indiana and Jaryd gives his approval. Thanks.

Testing my digital

By photorogue written 8/24/06 3:59 PM, published 8/24/06 3:59 PM
I started out a film photographer Popup Linkthe most famous door in St. Augustine and have enjoyed amateur photography for several years.  Recently though I took up a small digital point and shoot and have been putting it through its paces.  I think I found its limits, but I am satisfied with the results.  Popup LinkA1A Alehouse I started taking some night shots around St. Augustine, Fl, testing what I could do.  Popup Linkspanish fort #1  I shot a lot of the popular tourist spots by night, trying to get more original shots of the local tourist sites.  Popup Linkholiest acre This cross marks the spot of the first Christian consecrated land in America.  Popup LinkEpiscopal church I loved the abstract appearance of this steeple by night.

My wife and I spent the evening of July 4th sitting on the deck of a local restaurant where we had a good view of the fireworks.  I shot several photos there, both the daylight scenery and after dark.  Popup Linkpier next to the restaurant Popup Linkpier after dark   Popup Linkfreeway and dock

Last photo is a shot I used in sepia mode of the walkway of our temporary draw bridge.  Popup Linknight walk

I think I get my money's worth out of the camera.  My instructors at college always encouraged us to look at things with a new eye, and this camera has helped me do that.

Hear the Lonesome Whistle Blow at Calico Rock

By bullshoalsview written 8/20/06 6:33 PM, published 8/20/06 6:33 PM
Looking down this Popup LinkTrack along the River at  Popup LinkCalico Rock always makes me think of the end of "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" where George Clooney, Holly Hunter, and the little Whurvey girls walk across.... see what I mean?

Going south on Highway 5, you cross this
Popup LinkLong Two Lane Bridge over the White River.  Not much to do in town, maybe look at some Popup LinkAntiques or sit down for a Popup LinkPlate Lunch.  Then the Popup LinkPatchwork Asphalt will take you away from the past... away from Calico Rock....

Hope you enjoyed a peep at a little place time has forgotten!

Cotter Arkansas...Trout Capital of the USA

By bullshoalsview written 6/27/06 3:41 PM, published 6/27/06 3:41 PM

I spent the afternoon in Cotter, a quaint little town down on the White River, not far from here.  I went down under the Popup LinkOld Bridge and looked around.  I was excited that the Popup LinkTrain came through for me to see.  I wandered on down to the Popup LinkSwimmin Hole and saw some kids getting a chance to cool off on the Popup LinkRope Swing.  Do you like this shot in color or Popup LinkBlack and White?
I stopped into the Popup LinkTrout Dock Office, and got a cold drink.  I also thought this was a cool perspective on how the bridge is Popup LinkSupported.  I will finish your tour by showing you what the bridge looks like from the Popup LinkTopside.  Glad you got to go with me to Popup LinkCotter, hope you enjoyed seeing what I saw!

More Auction From The Weekend

By Penny written 5/10/06 8:39 PM, published 5/10/06 8:39 PM
So what do you think Popup Linkthey are looking Popup Linkat?  This Popup Linkfence and this Popup Linklatch are all that stops people from getting to the Popup LinkLeona.  I posted pics of  Popup Linkher (this shot) in a previous post. Unfortunately the auction is the farm she is on.  The farm is sold.  And subdivided.  I hope the new owners don't take her down.  The farmer that made her for his wife "Leona" has passed away and she has now too.  The family can't keep the farm.  I hope they don't wreck Popup Linkthis view. It is just   Popup Linkbeautiful.  The house, barn and 15 acres are up for sale together.  The rest is being sold in 10 to 15 acre lots.  Let's just hope  Popup Linkshe remains.

Now just for a laugh.  This is  Popup LinkSinatra my Uncles rooster.  He calls him his "crow".  But he showed us not to ever get between a rooster and his hen.  Or Popup Linkthis can happen to Popup Linkyou!  I laughed so hard when this happened I couldn't believe I got the shots.

Last minute signs entry

By cmcnaught written 4/8/06 10:45 PM, published 4/8/06 10:45 PM
I have thoroughly enjoyed the many signs posted during this challenge. As I went back through some of my photos I realized how many sign photos I already had. In keeping with the rules though, I went out and took new sign photos. Here's a "story."

Sometimes I walk around taking photos just because. I see a simple Popup Linkscene, or what I think is simple. It turns out there is hidden garbage in that dumpster labeled "General Forum." I've walked by a hundred times, never bothering to look in the dumpster. Imagine my surprise.

Inside the "Forum" lurks Popup Linkhidden dangers.

The calm facade, is merely that: Popup Linka false image, a mask if you will, for deep undercurrents.

Sometimes, things are put together that Popup Linkdon't really belong together, things I had no idea existed.

So here is my sign entry; you can ignore everything previous.

The  Popup LinkPerrine Bridge, which passes over the Snake River in Twin Falls, is dedicated to, and guarded by, Popup LinkIB Perrine.

Even this plaque has Popup Linkhidden colors brought out through some Popup Linksaturation adjustment.
