Well..

Turns out the lomos don't work. I got them in a bulk of 3 on ebay.. the one my boyfriend retained does work, the two I got do not. Oh well I guess. The Popup Linkproblem on the Smena Symbol is that the lever is supposed to raise to a 90 degree angle to advance the film. Then the Popup LinkSmena 8m just doesn't seem to work for some reason or another. It's a relatively old camera, so I'm sure that's a contributing factor. I've been taking them apart to try to see if I can fix it on my own, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to. RIP Los Smenadores.

Anyway, due to the loss of two things I've anxiously anticipated for over a month [the shipping from Russia to here took THAT long] I was a little too bummed out to take pictures. So I just decided to throw in two leftovers from this week. I hope you like them.

The Leica Freedom Train

I just received a very interesting email about the Leica camera company's efforts to save its employees from the Holocaust.

It's  a bit long to post here, but a worthwhile read.  (shouldn't take more than a minute or two to look at)

I've put it  up at http://www.firemark.net/lft.html

Bad News

By Heartofgold written 12/28/05 1:35 PM, published 12/28/05 1:35 PM
Well christmas morning, as I was getting ready to go to my daughter's place to open gifts, I noticed that I forgot my camera. When I went to get it off the dresser, it fell. I turned it on and it worked, Great. But later on when I wanted to take pictures, the camera would not work. It would not turn on.
I have four year warranty on it but it doesn't cover for damage from dropping it etc.
I got it at Best Buy. In the past I brought a Kodak camera there for my .Popup Linkdaughter and it broke after the warranty was over. The picture of my daughter and neice Megan was taken with the Kodak camera this Christmas. Best Buy and Kodak together gave me a brand new Kodak camera the same kind that was damaged. My camera is a Popup LinkCanon Powershot Popup LinkA95 I just brought in June 2005. Wish me luck.
For those of you following my progess on the house renovations, I posted some pics of the master bedroom, but it didn't last long on the front page, because of all the postings, please check them out.

Yea..it's Christmas

I was so excited, as I was blowing the leaves in the front yard..whats that I see?  it's Santa in a brown UPS truck. Today was the day my canon 20D arrived, but kinda like a Christmas gift..I had to wait to open it. Finally 6 hours later I opened it, and started to read the Popup LinkManual..thirlled to play with the parameter settings and shoot in sepia and  Popup LinkB&W . I can't wait to learn what this camera can do..Damn now I wish I could afford the 5D..But that will have to wait..I got to watch my recording of tonights Popup LinkLost ..and then go and wash those pans..Darn it,why didn't I check to see if they were cleaner?

My daughter will be turning 18 next month and I would like to get her a really good digital camera {that I can use too}.  Something {we} can practice with, but not be too expensive to regret spending the money...but I do want something GOOD...  Can anyone give me any advice?  We are both COMPLETE NOVICES!  Thanks....

Finally, another post and a first theme post!

Although I haven't had photographs worth posting, I've felt guilty for not contributing.  And since I've never played with one of the themes (at least publicly), I thought it was time.  So here goes.  Grew up in a small town (surprise) and got my degree in interior design at Texas Tech.  Didn't work much in the field but still love to Popup Linktinker at my house.   Have been a photographer since I could hold a Popup Linkcamera, for better or worse.  I like to cook and to travel and love combining the two by visiting wineries, even some in Popup LinkOklahoma!  But, if I'm traveling I'd rather go to Popup LinkEngland than anywhere else in the world.   Was a community newspaper editor for 11 years before becoming a realtor, winding up back in that same old small town.  And I have three babies:  Popup LinkBoo, named after Boo Radley; Popup LinkGrace; and Popup LinkSydney.  There's been no major trauma, no real drama in  my world so maybe I'm lucky.  And, fortunately, sometimes, I'm a better photographer than this illustrates!

Some other pics I took

Nothing has been happening with the house this week, so I thought I would post some random shots that I took with all three of my camera. Can you guess which ones were taken with 1) Canon Powershot A95. 2) Kodak Easyshare 6330 3) HP Photosmart M307.  Check out the Pics

Which one.......??? Hmmm....

By TURBO written 8/6/05 10:21 PM, published 8/6/05 10:21 PM

Okay, everybody... I would like your help. I 'm seriously considering buying a high-end DSLR. My choices so far are the Popup LinkCanon Rebel XT, the Popup LinkCanon 20D ,and the Popup LinkNikon D70.

The Canon 20D fits SOOOOO well in my hand, and I love the features. Not being that much of a pro, I probably wouldn't use all the features that it has, but in time I probably would. And with 8.2 mega pixels, I cant go wrong.

The Canon Rebel XT does everything the 20D does with the exception that it doesn't have a 1/8000 of a second f-stop: fastest the XT goes is 1/4000. Am I really going to miss a 1/4000 of a second difference? And it's about $500 less than the 20D.But... it just doesn't fit in my hand the way the 20D does: I have to curl up my forefinger just to get to the shutter button. Obviously, a smaller body shape.

The Nikon advantage is that it has a larger size lens that allows more light to get in, plus the mirror inside is larger, also. It only has a 6.2 mega pixel, though.

Having said all that, how do you feel about the choices I looking at? And is there any other ones that you would reccomend? I am open to all suggestions, and would appreciate your words of wisdom.
