Gillette Castle Redux

By PHANTASMAGORIA written 8/27/06 1:24 AM, published 8/27/06 1:24 AM
After reading the comments to Bearphoto's  post last week of Gillette Castle I have decided to offer some of my shots from the end of June. Just below there is a small ferry across the CT. River and you can see the Castle Popup Linkon top of the hill which is called the seventh sister. The Popup Linkoriginal entrance to the estate is just above the ferry slip and most visitors never even see it and on this day there  was nobody but myself to see the setting Popup Linksun on the stonework and nobody on the Popup Linkbalconies or the Popup Linkporch to see the sunset. I went around the corner under the Popup Linklattice to the Popup Linkriver side where I thought I saw someone Popup Linkin the greenhouse but they must have gone Popup Linkinside and watched me from the Popup Linknarrow window above. It felt like old
Sherlock Holmes was spying on me so I went back down the hill and looked back one more time from the Popup Linkstone arch.

I heard a sound over near the Popup Linkpicnic pavilion, which originally was Popup Link"Grand Central Station" for William Gillette's narrow gauge Railroad that ran around the estate. That train was moved to historic Lake Compounce amusement park, where I rode on it as a child. The station has a large open Popup Linkatrium with Popup Linkbeams to support the sky and a view of the Popup Linkbend in the river, as well as a Popup Linkframed view of the castle. There are also hiking trails and picnic areas on the very Popup Linkscenic grounds. If you want more info and history you can check out this web site which unfortunately is lacking in photos.

Ocean, Sand, and Surf! What else do you need to make it paradise?

By stormy written 8/14/06 7:20 AM, published 8/14/06 7:20 AM
Once again I found myself at the beach for the weekend.  This time I decided to try black and white photos.  Be honest and tell me what you think.  ThePopup Linkocean's surf started to Popup Linksplash the rocks and then Popup Linkreturn to its home.  The Popup Linkrockshelp protect the point from the ocean's fiery.   As we walked down the beach we came across a  Popup Linksand castle or in terms of my three year old thinking, Popup LinkCinderella's castle.  As I walked around the sand castle I notice that the inhabitants of the castle were Popup LinkMrs. and Mr. Octopus.  Must give credit to where credit is deserved.  The artists were from good ole Popup LinkNOLA.  Later that night I notice that the Popup Linksurf was really started to come in.

A few bonus pics in color.
