After reading the comments to Bearphoto's post last week of Gillette Castle I have decided to offer some of my shots from the end of June. Just below there is a small ferry across the CT. River and you can see the Castle 
on top of the hill which is called the seventh sister. The original entrance to the estate is just above the ferry slip and most visitors never even see it and on this day there was nobody but myself to see the setting sun on the stonework and nobody on the balconies or the porch to see the sunset. I went around the corner under the lattice to the river side where I thought I saw someone in the greenhouse but they must have gone inside and watched me from the narrow window above. It felt like oldSherlock Holmes was spying on me so I went back down the hill and looked back one more time from the
stone arch.
I heard a sound over near the picnic pavilion, which originally was "Grand Central Station" for William Gillette's narrow gauge Railroad that ran around the estate. That train was moved to historic Lake Compounce amusement park, where I rode on it as a child. The station has a large open atrium with beams to support the sky and a view of the bend in the river, as well as a framed view of the castle. There are also hiking trails and picnic areas on the very scenic grounds. If you want more info and history you can check out this web site which unfortunately is lacking in photos.
