Scavenger of Styles - #3 B & W
One of the issues I have with my local zoo is that they didn't upgrade their exhibits when they should have and now they are playing catchup. That means many of the animals are in less than perfect environments. This image shows that situation and I think the impact of those archaic conditions on the animals in better shown in B&W than color.

Thought that going forward I will try to post both the original image, that is out-of-camera, along with the final edited image. If you think it would be helpful I could also include the setup used to take the shot. That said you probably need some additional info. Because I use a Nikon D40X my raw images are 12 bit and Photoshop Elements 9 will only read 8 and 12. This means when I import a file into Elements it comes in as a 8 bit image with a resulting loss of colors. That means I don't use Elements a lot. Instead I use Nikon Capture NX2. All that explanation means that any questions about editing steps may not get the answers you can use.

Scavenger of Styles - #10
This is white peeling paint on an old storage building and, to me, the pattern looks like the British Isles.
Scavanger of Styles - #9 Close Up
Site not letting me post comments to answer a question --> Hand holding camera isn't something I can do, too much shake in my hands, unless the shutter speeds are high. Especially for close work I always use a tripod, at minimum a monopod.

So turns out I know nothing about monkeys - this is probably a Blue Monkey (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BlueMonkey.jpg)
Challenge: Stay Cool
Alright, I have no examples because this just came to me so I thought I'd post it. For you next challenge (and I'm going to set this for the month of July) I want to see photos that show how you can stay cool during these dog days of summer. It's late enough in the year that people should be feeling heat just about everywhere. And what better to weekend to show staying cool than 4th of July weekend! Where people are vacationing at the beach or a lake, and kicking back with a cold beverage while the hamburgers and hotdogs sizzle on the grill.
So get out and show me how you're staying cool through the month of July!
(and if you want to put a twist on it, show me those Joe Cool moments around you ;-)
Bi-Weekly Challenge: Pat and Rep
Well, I took Mr. Q's advice and took some shots of the construction work on my house. I took this one of the concrete truck exhaust for the Challenge:
Challenge: Bi-Weekly Challenge. Amenity Art.
Firstly I was honoured when I was asked to host the next Bi-Weekly Challenge on November 15th.. Secondly I am delighted to accept the challenge and hope my efforts are worthy of Photographica !
All of our County's, City's, Towns and some villages (Parishes)have an elected local governing body and they spend the public purse in our best interests, as they always tell us! Naturally, some times I agree and sometimes I disagree with how our tax money is used!
My City of Stoke on Trent is an old City in serious industrial and social decline, long gone are the days of Shelton Bar (steel makers) and all of our coal mining pits have been capped off. The Pottery industry has been shipped abroad where the cost of labour is far cheaper!
A couple of decades ago there were many acres of industrial dereliction and wasteland poisoned by industry, this poor state of affairs was deemed no longer acceptable by the City's people. Henceforth, re-development of the City began in earnest!
So came about areas of empty land put to use with a sculpture or other art that helps to enhance our living environment. I agree that it looks good but can't help but think could that money have been better spent elsewhere!
All of these photo's were taken while in the back seat of our car, all the art can be seen from the road. I had my wife drive me around Stoke while we were on our way to do our weekly grocery shop!
The challenge is to photograph outdoor art or sculpture that has been funded by your government taxes, local or central!... However, the method of funding is not a strict criteria and any form of art out in the community will do!... It should be easily accessible by road or footpath for the public to see and enjoy!... I want to see a little part of the path or road in the photograph, think safety first!... The shots don't have to be perfect, especially if you're taking them while sitting in the back seat of a car on the move.

This challenge has raised my curiosity as I don't even know how to interpret what these sculptures represent. I 'll have to research them as I'm pretty sure you Photographica folk will want to know what they mean..
Be sure to read the comments to this challenge!
A compromise is fine by me... Anything you deem artistic outdoors in the community! Road or path needn't be included in the shot! I think that should simplify matters for everyone! Every town is different, I realise that point..

Bi Weekly Challenge ~ Flowers pt 2
Some of my favorite flowers are blooming next door. They had a bunch of bumble bees buzzing around. Here are a few of the shots.
Here is a corn stalk top, they are starting to harvest the corn, summer is almost over.
Thanks for looking and commenting! Have a Great Evening! :o)
Bi Weekly Challenge ~ Flowers
I finally took some time to process a few pics to post here. These are the last of the butterfly bush flowers with a little addition to them.
Not sure what these are, but they are wild around my house and I have seen hummers and bees around them.
Thanks for any comments and for looking. Have a Wonderful night! :o)
