Sach's Bridge Revisited

By Paulamouse written 8/20/08 9:23 AM, published 8/20/08 9:24 AM

I haven't been to this bridge for almost a year and it just gets better and better. This bridge was used by Confederate soldiers on the way to the big brawl at Gettysburg. I met a woman there who claimed to be a "Spirit Reader".......says she sees the past and the future and she sees dead Civil War soldiers lying all around the bridge. I missed that part, all I saw was some damn nice scenery.

A couple blocks off of the square we find Big Dog Neon

This is also remained the same since I was a kid, mowed and weeded around, the neighbors yard Behind Dad's shop

For 20 years the city historical society along with the black community have been trying to determine if this is an actual "Roosevelt School" or not; but finally 5 years ago they raised enough money to partially restore the  Old Black School

Don't usually take camera along ...

By sdgt written 8/20/08 6:19 AM, published 8/20/08 6:22 AM

... when weeding the flower garden but the Challenge made it seem like a good idea.  The Brown-eye Susan flowers had guests:  Unknown BugKatydidButterfly1 .  There was a  Bee on Cone Flower , a Grasshopper nymph chewing on the Hollyhock leaves, and  White-lined Sphinx Moth defending a grape leaf.  The moth was very funny because when disturbed it vibrated its wings.  I guess it was trying to frighten me away.  Finally there was the fledgling wren who launched himself shortly after this photo  Fledgling Wren and crashed into the flowers and hid.

while visiting my sis-in-law,

By brenda98 written 8/19/08 6:40 AM, published 8/20/08 5:55 AM

I brought my camera! Apparently I'm the cat person in both my famlies. everyone else has dogs. Ok, to be fair, they have cats too, but she seems to like her canines better. here's  cj trying to get a few minutes of peace.

I suppose up here in MT,  baby bucks eating apples in your front yard is normal. Since this is only my 3rd visit here, the jury's still out.

Then there are the farm pets. Ty likes  bird watching so those pesky birds don't steal his food. And the  barn_cat , Patches, who is very useful at keeping tiny critters away.

Ahhh, country life!

Bisti: The badlands!

By enigmaticfaerie written 8/19/08 7:40 AM, published 8/19/08 7:41 AM

Or as I affectionately call them:  The BadAss Lands!  I loved this place!  It was so unreal and like another planet.  No seriously, as we were driving it's normal desert landscape then you turn down the road into the Bisti Wilderness and it's like you've just crossed a vortex onto the moon.  It's so crazy cool!

And boy was our one night crazy.  Check out the crazy winds we had to endure all evening (starting about 5:30 pm) into the morning.  But the weather, although crazy produced some of my favorite images from the trip:

Storm a Brewin'

Dramatic Skies

Dramatic Skies B&W

Part of me wished we had more than just an evening there, but then we woke up 7:30 am to blistering heat and we were thankful to leave that part behind.  I'm super stoked about my film shots from this place, but alas I won't know how they look until next week.
A few more Bisti pictures tomorrow and then were moving on through to Canyon de Chelley.  Hope you guys are still enjoying this!

This was taken at the Allegheny State Park. I started by taking a photo of this flower (not the best shot) whatIstoppedfor.

Then this caught my eye  Whats_this

It turned out to be this  Lunch_time

A whale of a tail

By MRQUACKERS written 8/18/08 11:02 PM, published 8/18/08 11:03 PM

Allow me to introduce myself.

I’m Stick-T-Whale.  I normally don’t travel this far inland, but there was enough water for me and my friends to make the journey.   Some of my fellow travelers are a bit shy, while others like to make their presence known.   Some people think that I would eat those pore fishies, but since coming here, I’ve turned vegetarian.  I will be traveling back to the wide open seas come fall; I like my water liquid, not frozen.

And that’s my tail, and I’m gonna keep it!

what's happening around me....

By tranquilspirit written 8/18/08 8:24 PM, published 8/18/08 8:25 PM

This week's challenge....oh the possibilities...you really made me think!  There is so much that happens around here on a daily basis, that sometimes I forget to think about what happens that makes the world slow down a little....so, as I was perusing my photo files, these are what came to mind as moments that make time stand still... little happenings from my world...

moments of everlasting love.... love_lingers

moments of wonderment... sands_of_time

Arachnophobia Anyone?

By home_at_sea written 8/18/08 6:49 PM, published 8/18/08 6:49 PM

Along Came a Spider ......I caught this little guy while grilling some burgers at my sister's house the other day. The web was incredible. A large network of silk with, what looked like a zipper woven in the middle. Fortunatley, my daughter had left her coolpix on the picnic table next to me......Ironically, it seemed that he was having lunch as well.
