Last of the Orange Rose...

All day today, from the time I got to school until I could go home, I kept watching the snow fall heavily outside.  One of my fellow teachers helped me clear off my car, but I had to wait for her to clear off the snow that had fallen on her car while she was doing mine.  I am just glad to be home in a warm house tonight.  These roses fill my white world with color.

Beyond the sunset

BEYOND THE SUNSET --HANK WILLIAMS

SHOULD YOU GO FIRST AND I REMAIN TO WALK THE ROAD ALONE

I'LL LIVE IN MEMORY'S GARDEN DEAR, WITH HAPPY DAYS WE'VE KNOWN

IN SPRING I'LL WAIT FOR ROSES RED, WHEN FAITH THE LILACS BLOOM

AND IN EARLY FALL WHEN BROWN LEAVES FALL, I'LL CATCH A GLIMPSE OF YOU

SHOULD YOU GO FIRST AND I REMAIN, FOR BATTLES TO BE FOUGHT

EACH THING YOU'VE TOUCHED ALONG THE WAY, WILL BE A HALLOWED SPOT

I'LL HEAR YOUR VOICE I'LL SEE YOUR SMILE
THOUGH BLINDLY I MAY GROPE

THE MEMORY OF YOUR HELPING HAND, WILL BUOY ME ON WITH HOPE

BEYOND THE SUNSET OH BLISSFUL MORNING
WHEN WITH OUR SAVIOUR, HEAVEN IS BEGUN

EARTHS TOILING ENDED, OH GLORIOUS DAWNING

BEYOND THE SUNSET WHEN DAY IS DONE

Baby, It's Cold Outside

By piperlove written 1/26/08 8:31 AM, published 1/26/08 8:31 AM

It snows alot here in Michigan but that's nothing new.  But everytime it snows, you wake up to a new world. The Weight of The World This particular storm was a wet, heavy snow. On Down The Line It lays usually big beautiful bushes over like they are made of rubber. And it doesn't fall on any tree the same way.  The Silence Is So Loud And it covers everything like a blanket.

Welcome to Maine ...... Come Back Soon!

By cokids written 1/25/08 6:49 AM, published 1/25/08 3:49 PM

Ok, I am NOT from the Maine Chamber of Commerce, but....this state stretches with a coastline as long as the one from Maine to Florida and has mountains AND seashores. It has lovely summers and COLD winters. If you love the seasons, you'd love Maine! Here is a lovely view of the Machias River at sunrise on a fall day. Machias RiverWe also have ample wildlife and this guy/gal makes regular stops in my yard to check out the bird feeders. I shot these through my glass slider, so they are not as sharp as they might otherwise be, but I still like them. How about you? Foxy fellow....listening for danger! Foxy Fella New Year's Eve, 2007 And in winter we have lovely, bright days and colorful sunsets as was this one on New Year's Eve day of 2007. We had just had a snowstorm, so the trees were magical! I love this time! Fear in the winter! And if you are so inclined, there is fun to be had in the snow that is plentiful this time of year.

I am going to start to blog about photography in Maine. You'll find my blog at http://storyhourphotography.blogspot.com/, if you're interested. I hope to do some articles about photographing different places in Maine starting with my 'hometown,' Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor!! (Hope it's okay to share this kind of info here.)

I DO hope that some of this whets appetites to come up here with your cameras!! It is a great place to photograph. And I have nothing to gain and some to lose by people 'finding' Maine!

Anyway, enjoy and DO come!!

Stay tuned....
Beth

A bit of Northwest Illinois

By bugaboo written 1/19/08 5:55 AM, published 1/19/08 7:57 PM

After spending time shooting the eagles the other day we rode further north to Galena, Illinois. The area is filled with Historic Houses we hope to go back next fall and try to capture its beauty more then. Along the way we also saw some critters, here is a Horse with his shaggy winter coat, and some wonderful farms. The downtown shopping area is filled with interesting architecture.

Can't wait for spring!

I recently moved to Missouri from Colorado in August. I enjoy taking BW photos once in a while so when I decided to explore Tunnel road in Branson West I loaded my camera with some BW film. Took photo with my Pentax ZX 30 camera. Was very happy to find "tunnel" of trees. Took photo in October. Tunnel Road Fall 2007 Branson West I recently moved to Missouri from Colorado in August. It's been awhile since I've taken photographs. These were taken this fall on vacation in New Hampshire and near home in Maryland. The old OM-2 still has it, I think.

Winter has begun in Western Colorado.  Snow was late in getting here, but Old Man Weather is making up for it now.  Brrr.  So, I decided to post some fall colors to cheer myself up.  Pretty trees. Hope you like them.

Hong Kong Street Scenes

By fuzzy1 written 12/7/07 12:51 PM, published 12/7/07 6:32 PM

Random stuff I saw while wandering around Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island.....

too many floors to count
another trolley car
curves
indoor market
outdoor street market
snacks on the street
taxi anyone?

One of the advantages to staying in one place for more than a few days is that after a while you fall into a routine and the 'newness' starts to wear off, so I find myself noticing more of the little everyday things happening around me, instead of just looking at the place with the eyes of a tourist. (I was in HK for 15 days this time and I've been there 5 or 6 times before, so I've gotten to know parts of it pretty well).

Sometimes the ordinary, everyday stuff makes better images...

Peaceful Fall

By calepo written 12/2/07 2:55 PM, published 12/3/07 4:43 AM

The changing of the seasons is so meaningful to many of us. Not only does Mother Earth transition, so do we.

For me, Fall is a time to reflect. It's a time to look back and consider where I've been and it's a time to look forward to where I'd like to go. As the air chills and the rain falls, it's the perfect time to sit in front of a crackling fire and be thankful for what you have. Even though your life may not be perfect, isn't it wonderful that we can visit such wonderful places and take peace in what we see and isn't it more wonderful that we can share this peace with others?

May you all find peace.....

Peaceful Fall

Colors Are Fading Fast

Things are getting brown, dreary as fall exits and winter enters.

The originals were very dark as these were taken at dusk..I tried to lighten them up without losing the color or compromising the quality..let me know how I did and what I can do better...thanks.

NYC Photo Comparison Part 3 of 3 - 1945 to 2006

By Pablo57 written 11/25/07 4:47 PM, published 11/26/07 6:00 PM
This is Part 3, the final episode, of a photo comparison between Don Philip's 1945 photos and my photos taken in 2006-7.  See the genral forum for more information.

To view these photos, open as usual, maximize the photo window by click the little box in the upper right corner, click once in the window anywhere to lock it, then use the scroll bars. Close the window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner.

NY Harbor Views, July 5th, 2006. – the three photos are from the Staten Island ferry which runs from Lower Manahattan to Staten Island.  The ferry is free, there are no lines like at the Statue of Liberty ferries and the view is spectacular.  I would suggest a ride if you are in town.

Statue of Liberty.  Not much has changed here.  Our lady of the harbor is still greeting the immigrants.  She is a witness.  Statue of Liberty

This photo and the next one could have been taken seconds apart.  If you are on a ship entering the harbor and look to the left you’ll see the statue and if you look ahead you’ll see the next photo.

NY Harbor and Lower Manhattan as seen from a ship in the harbor.  Don’s photo shows the George Washington Bridge in the upper left corner.  This is truly amazing.  I do not recall ever seeing a photo that shows the Battery and the George Washington Bridge.  The bridge is just too far away. Don’s photo is looking up the Hudson River to the west.  My photo shows the Brooklyn Bridge in the lower right corner looking up the East River and also shows a shadow of the Empire State Building.  The Brooklyn Bridge is very close to the Battery.NY Harbor Lower Manhattan Skyline

Battery Park as seen from a ship.  Don’s photo is looking East, my photo is looking North.  Most of the buildings in Don’s photo are still standing. Castle Clinton is very significant in Don’s photo.  In my photo the fort is in the middle of the photo behind a ferry and is dwarfed by the Wall Street towers.  The significant building in my photo is the Woolworth building, just seen looking up Broadway. Battery Park

A final word - The hairs on my arms stood up as I took several of these photos.  The time between 1945 and 2006 may seem long, but it is as long as the wink of an eye.  The time it takes for the little snow flake stars to fall in a crystal ball of New York City.
