Ok, this is the end of the leafy editorial stuff.  And despite my obsession, I've yet to take a single picture of leaves outside this shoot.  But that's ok, the leaves are still changing here so I have a little time left.

Today's shots are brought to you by the little plastic wonder!

I just thought I'd throw out some more shots from my cute blue camera and all it's plastic-ey goodness.

Thanks for looking and Happy Friday Everyone!

I have to say, out of all my southwest Diana shots, this one has to by my favorite.

Taken in Utah during one of our "baths".

It only took me three weeks to get all these pictures, but it took me 3 months to get them all done.  Here are the last shots from my southwest trip.

 Canyon de Chelly

If I feel a little spunky later in the week, I might upload some of the interesting things I got out of my diana from the trip, but for now the trip is officially over.  Thanks for all the wonderful feedback and critiques on all of my posts from this trip.  I hope you enjoyed looking at the west through my camera!

More b&w editorial stuff

But we're moving up in class... or down.  Actually, both!  We're finally past headshots and this past week we had to shoot almost full body.  And we got to use 3 light sources.  Attempting to recreate the Avedon look (two umbrellas lighting the back a stop down from the Soft box that will light the subject).  I'm not sure how I did, but I was pleased with my results.

 My Roommate Katie

These were shot with Ilford FP4 (35mm) and one was with Ilford Delta 100 (120) shot with the school's Hassleblad, 1/125" at f16 for all.

Just two more from the few I scanned in last week.  I hope to get back to my negatives on Monday.  So more should be coming next week... sometime.

Some film shots from the southwest

I'm finally getting to my film shots from my southwest trip.  School has picked up faster than I anticipated and although I've had my film developed for many weeks I haven't been able to do anything with it.  I've scanned some negatives here and there but haven't gotten to print (I thought I'd be able to do that today, but alas work has called to me and I'm here instead).

But I thought I would share some of the ones I've scanned.  I've found that scanning the images that I think I may like from the contact sheets really helps confirm or dismiss my original liking of an image.  By doing it this way, I save grief, money and time in the darkroom.  I never thought digital would help me so much.  I still intend to print a lot of these by hand in the darkroom, but the digital darkroom is definitely helping me narrow my selection.  And also enlightening me on a small mini series I have in the making:

My southwest walls:  1   2   3   4   5

Most of these were taken in Canyon de Chelly (and as you can see in two there are a few ruins.  They look like toy buildings and it's hard to imagine they're big enough to house whole families from the pictures) although one is from Chaco.  And these are just from 3 out of my 8 rolls of film.  Like I said... a mini series in the making.  I wish I could print today... after scanning these in yesterday (I had the lack of motivation to print, so I decided to still be a little productive in my endeavor) I got excited about a few.  Oh well, guess I'll have to start Monday.
All taken with Ilford FP4 iso 64, developed 1:3 in ID-11, negatives scanned digitally.

It's always more fun with an adventerous model

Along with shooting a few frames with my DianaF+, I also shot 36 frames with my 35mm.  With the whacked-out-ness of the diana, I didn't want to take too many chances with not having a good shot to turn in.  Now I believe I'm faced with too many choices!  I haven't printed for class and will later this afternoon and it's going to be a tough choice!  I just need to choose 3...

Hannah and I had so much fun.  When I cast her to be my model I told her I wanted to do something different.  She's a fellow photographer and she actually just switched her major from photography to art education (hasn't decided if it was a good decision yet).  But the photo building missed her and she missed it so she jumped on the opportunity to play with the editorial layout she wouldn't get to see otherwise.  She came prepared with a bottle of water, shampoo, a bar of soap and some bubbles.  It was different (even though the assignment hasn't changed:  B&W headshots/upperbody) and boy was it fun!

 A fun model

Shot with Ilford FP4, iso set at 100 (rather than 125), at f11-f8 and 1/60" and one umbrella.

Oh the fun you will have...

... and the surprises you get when you shoot in an editorial setting with a DianaF+.  This week for my editorial class i decided to take my DianaF+, the hotshoe flash adapter and a lot of gambling on whether or not I could get the transmitter for the strobe to work with the diana.  It did and my model and I had tons of fun shooting with it and my 35mm camera.

Today I'll show you the diana fun and maybe later the shots I got with my 35mm.  Now I'm going to enlighten you guys a bit about the diana.  These are not the sharpest crayons in the box, thanks to the wonderfulness of a plastic lens.  And they are not the most contrasty negatives you'll ever see.  So the results I have are the best that can be done without completely blowing out the highlights.  Also, the vignetting at the edges are natural on the film itself.  That being said, I hope you enjoy my Diana Fun!

Shot with Ilford 120 HP5 ISO 400 film.  I had to have ISO 400 due to the fact that diana's only have three f-stops (f22-f11) and two shutterspeeds (1/60 and bulb).  These were all shot at f11 at 1/60" with one umbrella strobe for lighting.  Negatives scanned in at school, levels and contrast in CS2.

Editorial Shoot #2

This time with a southwest buddy:   Brittany

Same deal as the last one.  One hot light, ISO 400 (ilford hp5 film), 1/60" at f6.7, negatives scanned at school.  One thing different in the ones zoomed out, I was using a nikkor 17-35mm lens that I borrowed from the photo-j department.... I may have a hard time returning it.

Comments, critiques and criticism of all kinds taken with a smile.  I may be gritting my teeth, but it'll still be a smile :-)

A little photoshoot with my best friend

It's the third week of school and it's finally in full swing.  Being in editorial that means I've finally had my first photo shoot!  We shot with one single hot lamp, head shots only and in b&w.  I recruited my best friend of 10+ years to help me out on my first shoot.  I think we make a pretty good team.

 Editorial shoot #1 - Kate
Let me know what you guys think.  We had to basically shoot the same thing again for this coming week so you can expect another slide show of b&w headshots, but different model (despite how much I love Katie, I decided to try some other models).  Our teacher is just trying to get us aware of the light on the face and such before he moves us to umbrellas for our 3rd shoot.

Thanks for looking!  Any feedback is appreciated and welcomed!

Shot with Ilford HP5 film, ISO 400, developed by me.  These are not scans of prints but scans of the negatives.  I actually only printed two for class, scanned in some for her.  I got the same tones from the negative scan as I would from a print so I went with it.
Also, there is a large amount of grain in these.  HP5 is grainy, but the higher ISO was needed because the hot light puts out just enough light to hand hold with the aperture wide open (or close to wide open) with an ISO of 400.  I shot all these with 1/60" at f6.7

I finally got time to go by and take a better picture of our 'big indian'.  I didn't actually get out of the car, so I didn't find out who carved it.  But here are a couple of pictures:  Popup Linkthrough the window [tinted!] and Popup Linkafter rolling the window down!  At a different park, I took a few pictures of trees:  Popup Linkfabulous color and Popup Linkfun with shadows.

NOTE:  no post processing on any of these photos.  I used slide film [200] and had it cross processed.  I love the saturated color!
