The Memphis zoo also has a small aquarium. I had a heck of a time shooting in there, high iso, trying to get the best angle to hide scratches and reflections, while framing, focusing and shooting a fish swimming by. Marginal success but still a sampling of the zoo's aquarium.
Main entrance. Has an Egyptian theme.
Obelisk. Just inside the main entrance.
Cat House Cafe. Used to be the house for the big cats before they moved them to natural habitat enclosures.
Whiskers.
Come and get me.
Lionfish. Didn't like this shot but it is Barb's favorite fish so you suffer so I don't have to.
Piranha.
Varicose forehead.
Comments and criticisms welcome as always. Probably post some more animal shots tomorrow. That's your last warning.
Tomorrow is my school children's Field Trip and I think I can get some pictures for the challenge. Today some more of the dancing trees and the fish pond. They are not the same ones as yesterday so please take a look.
The bi weekly challenge is to show evidence that someone or something has been there before. This is what I found today.
I moved last weekend, and took a bunch of pictures of the process, but got a couple of gems in-between the documentation of the move... One day it was raining, and I saw
We finally had some sunshine today and I had a chance to get out and take some shots. I am amazed the difference the new glass makes....oh, I LOVE it....

Hope y'all enjoy!
Okay, a few last shots from the brand new Georgia Aquarium.
Contrasting Fish 1/60sec, f4, 36mm equiv
Leafy Sea Dragon - what else can I say... 1/20sec, f5.6, 82mm equiv
Very cool lighting from above 1/20sec, f5.6, 82mm equiv
Group Shot 1/45sec, f5, 57mm equiv
Pretty Colors 1/45sec, f5.6, 78mm eqiv
Blue Jelly 1/125sec, f5.6, 82mm equiv
These are all pretty much "as shot" With Nikon D50 with an 18-55mm zoom. (And just a tiny bit of level adjust and/or cropping.) On the last one, they had some funky lighting to make them really stand out (as you can see.). It was very cool.
More shots from the Georgia Aquarium. Plan your trip NOW. You don't want to miss this place.
No, that's not a movie screen, but

Big Fish

I really wish I was a poet so I could describe to you what our new aquarium is like, but the best I can do is WOW!!!!! I took a TON of pics, and I'll post some more later, but with this first set, I wanted to convey the sheer magnitude of this place....
Space,
Color,
Number,
Beauty,
Size
For these next two, you may have to scroll around. I didn't have the heart to shrink them any more!! (Internet Explorer: hit ctrl+N; Firefox: use the arrow keys to pan.)
Wonder
(A coral reef, complete with
crashing waves.)
And finally, the largest viewing window in the world. This, by the way is a little more than HALF (!!!) of the window. It wouldn't all fit in the frame!!!
MAGIC!!!!
Spent all day cleaning out my tanks for the fish photo shoot. SLR has made taking pictures of my fish enjoyable knowing I can come up with shots like these...

This is a little extra I found from a future photographica addict. I think "
hmmm I wonder if my son was playing around with my camera again???"
Since I posted the theme last week my wife has been grexing about me missing one of the family members, so here he/she/it is. The name is Biscuits. It came as one of a pair that my wife named Biscuits & Gravy, but Biscuits ate gravy early on. She had another big fish named Panfish, but Biscuits ate him. She bought a few other fish since, yep, lunch. So hey, that's what fish do, but, I am hoping to make it a bit more interesting. I'm thinking of throwing in a Piranha or two, or maybe a small Beluga. That should make life a bit more interesting for Biscuits.

Having not posted in a while, I thought I'd share our trip to Mexico with you. I've never been there, so it was a "culture shock" to me! As far as beauty, it paled in comparasion to Hawaii, but I had a better time there. We went deep sea fishing and caught a couple of

After reading kwsNI's story Learn to Scuba Dive on K5, I felt inspired to dig out some of my pictures while I was scuba diving in the Pacific off of Costa Rica last March. A guy we were with tried using a disposable underwater camera, but at 70-100 feet the pressure was to much for the shutter to open. At least it didn't implode! This was my first and sofar only attempt (but it won't be my last) at underwater photography. Scale is really hard to judge in these pictures (ie the
