Enjoying a September Evening in the Northland

By tomnorth written 9/7/06 8:28 PM, published 9/7/06 8:28 PM

In Minnesota we have to take advantage of every one of these beautiful late summer evenings that we can.  Tonight we ate out on the patio.  Salad was Popup Linktomatoes from the garden and fresh mozzarella. Yum.  Anna was Popup Linkcozying up to her pink unicorn. All these shots of Anna were table-top shots where I aimed blind.  Thank goodness for auto-focus.  Here are a couple where I played with f-stops for effect.

~~ Colorful Food ~~

A friend brought some peppers to work the other day. I thought Photo Op!! So I took the peppers and arranged them on the table...took the small red and green ones and scattered them on the table, too. Here's my Popup Linkpeppers. That made me think to go to the local market and shoot some Popup Linkyellow peppers, finally some  Popup Linkorange peppers.
Heck, why stop there? Why not get some Popup Linkpotatoes,  Popup Linkpeaches, Popup Linklettuce, gotta have some Popup Linkred potatoes, and an  Popup Linkassortment of Popup Linkveggies.
And what's a fancy dinner without some nice Popup Linkflowers,  Popup Linkmore flowers, and a Popup Linkclose up. I know, I'll just bring home the Popup Linkwhole vase! And the Champagne! Guess I'll get lucky tonight!

Yummy.....

I shot the sheriff but I did not shoot the deputy

MikeH and I decided we needed to give Loweho a reason to smile after his “procedure”. Here are a few items we thought Don needs to turn that frown into a grin.

Popup LinkMermaid Sheriff Part 2
At the Coney Island Mermaid Parade photo op, the sheriff was there alone with no support group and her smile and enthusiasm lit up the area.  She was the only one there that I felt comfortable photographing. She has a generous, photogenic, soothing soul.

The Adventures of Hana and Pyro43 (Part 2)

By Pyro43 written 5/17/06 5:43 PM, published 5/17/06 5:43 PM
The last episode ended with Hana in the Popup LinkSea of Yellow. There was impending danger ahead, as the village workers were going to be cutting the grass. We had no idea whether Hana would be able to survive this terrible turn of dastardly events. Now, in Hana's own words.

When Pyro and I arrived at the park, I became confused by the Sea of Yellow. I actually thought that all the yellow objects were members of my family. I rushed into the middle of them only to discover that they were actually dandy lions or something like that. I called and called, but Pyro couldn't hear me or see me. I spent the night in the cold dark park. I was awakened the next morning by a loud noise that kept getting closer and closer. There was grass and dandy lions flying through the air and landing all around me. It was scary! Suddenly, out of nowhere, there was Pyro lifting me from imminent danger. Whew, fer sure!

Having escaped from the blades of doom, I was ready to play. Pyro put me on the Popup Linkbig swing. Then he and I rode on the teeter- totter. You can tell how it's Popup Linklevel that Pyro and I weigh exactly the same. Then I got to go down the Popup Linkslide which was pretty scary too. But not as scary as being wa-a-a-ay at the top of thePopup Linkmonkey bars. Pyro said if I was too scared to climb down he would call his friends at the fire department and have them bring the big ladder truck. Do you think he was joking? I never did find out, because I was able to get down alone.

Then we went to see the Popup LinkLime Kilns. That's me in the very center of the picture making my way up the hill for a better look. I got to see the Popup LinkMilwaukee River while we were at the park too. We were on the way back to Pyro's truck when, guess what! I found aPopup Linkshiny penny on the ground. Pyro said when you find a penny it will bring you good luck and I can keep it, so I'm gonna take it along on my future adventures for good luck. Then it was time to go home for supper.

Pyro and I fired up the Popup Linkgrill. Supper was gonna be Popup LinkCornish hen. I said it looked a little bland, so we needed to baste it with something. I looked in thePopup Linkrefrigerator and found some apricot preserves so I Popup Linkbasted it.The hen is Popup Linkdone, and it's time to eat.

See ya next time. I'm hungry!

And so too, am I. Please enjoy our little fable.

I hope it's okay that I didn't ask his permission for the shot... his little hand just shot in when I was clicking.

Midtown Architecture with a Side Trip to Brooklyn

By Pablo57 written 2/28/06 2:23 PM, published 2/28/06 2:23 PM
36th Street, non descriptive buildings, simple architectural beauty, as seen from the fourteenth floor on Fashion Avenue, Manhattan.

Popup Link1. Lions
Popup Link2. Castle
Popup Link3. Roof Top Shapes

And down below is a Popup Linktypical fashion district store open to wholesale costumers only.  Prices are not displayed.  There are hundreds of wholesale stores in this area.  I imagine store owners from around the world visit here to purchase garments in bulk. Occasionally the stores will have sample sales open to the public and the word travels fast.

Here are my favorite architectural pieces.  Such smooth lines, simplicity, artistically designed, beautiful robust colors, pleasing to the eye and other senses. Popup LinkGrandma and her friend Popup LinkMarinara, suitable for framing.  So soft it melts in your mouth. Not Manhattan architecture, but Brooklyn, specifically Italia Pizzeria on Kings Highway in Bay Ridge. I could go in to a long discussion here but I'll save that for another time.

Depth of (Depth of (Depth of Field)))

Dee oh eph, I had a lot of fun with this but just could not get what I wanted.  I'm now aware of the depth of this and will continue to experiment. Here are some of my experiments.

Popup LinkA map of the garment district where I work.  I wanted to get just the "You are Here" in focus, but after numerous attempts, including developing film, I gave up.

Popup LinkParking meter in front of B&H.  Guess how much it cost to park here on the street.  Any guesses?  Answer is further down the page.

Popup LinkYellow twisted fluorescent energy saver light bulb.   Say that five times fast.

Here is my favorite dee of eph. (Depth of food).  A Popup Linkpastrami sandwich from the Carnegie deli, ogled last Monday night, which cost $12.75, but was eaten in two subsequent meals.

The meter cost 50 cents per 15 minutes, which is one dollar an hour, credit cards are accepted.  The parking lot behind the meter is something like $15/hour.    I hardly drive into the city, but when I do, I find on free street parking.

Popup Link Sensor overload leads to indifference
These people are protesting the torture of Chinese people.  The photo was taken in front of Madison Square Garden.  I asked if it was ok to take the photo and the woman with the baton posed for the photo.  The protestors are at several sites around the city.
