Big Island 1 (Hawaii 3)
Hi all. :) I split the pictures from the Big Island into two posts. (And for anyone wondering, Kuai and Maui, Kuai's post being more specific about my travels to Hawaii.)
"Beach" - You see, it seems that at least on the volcanic side of Hawaii, there aren't actually beaches. You don't find sand. The land just kinda.. stops. And then the ocean starts. It's kinda cool, but I felt a little confused at first.
Lava - sorry, from a huge distance. It turns out, though, that a couple days later (when we were safely on the other side of the island) the part of the trail we walked on actually got covered by the flow of lava. So if we waited a bit, I might have been able to get really cool pictures. :D Oh well.
Sulphur vents 1 Sulphur vents 2 Sulphur vents 3. It rained on us, but the sulphur vents were still pretty cool. Apparently, there was even a little earthquake, but us Californians didn't feel it at all. You see how there's so much blue on that seismograph? That's because the volcano causes little movements you can't feel all the time. Pretty cool, if you think about it.
Luau 1 Luau 2. We did go to a couple of luaus. :)
Okay, that was still a lot pictures.. Oh well. I'll figure out a balance eventually. Hope you liked some of them, at least.

The Big Island, Hawaii, January 2009

I was on the Big Island, waiting for a horseback ride at Parker Ranch with a group, and a rainstorm came in. We enjoyed the ride, but were wet and cold at the end. We had a much warmer time at Kealakekua Bay snorkeling.

It's Been Awhile

Well, I've gone on another long stretch without posting. I thought I'd share a few from my trip to Oahu in January.

Thanks for looking. Don't let the cannons keep you from commenting honestly!
Hawaii Adventures

I went TDY to Hawaii in April of this year. Sometimes I get to go cool places in this job. This is actually my third TDY to Hawaii which some people might be tempted to say I'm spoiled. But believe me when I say it is more work than play. These are the photos I took with my 35mm SLR. I will be posting some of the ones I took with my digital SLR soon. I was amused that most of the plants in these photos you can buy at the local nursary.

This flower is about the size of a quarter. I think this is the first macro I've taken that has turned out. I'm still learning.

Arizona Memorial
Sadly, at the memorial, most people just take pictures of the sunken ship itself, and they never seem to look up and notice the somber, yet strong, architecture. It's too bad; most people don't really think of what it is, which is a tomb.
