An Uncommon Group . . . .

By cratchet written 5/21/08 9:09 PM, published 5/21/08 9:09 PM

The only thing these pictures have in common is that I took them on a recent trip to Montana.

We had record snowfall amounts in the North Cascades this winter, and this is the result of the spring melt (it was raining in addition to the spray and mist, resulting in an almost dreamlike quality - except for the deafening roar of the water)  Snoqualmie_Falls1

This one I should have had for the BLUE challenge - how many shades can you count (aqua counts too) Flathead_Lake  (I know the horizon should be higher or lower, but I couldn't move it without losing shades of blue in the sky or water).

And finally, lots of timber industry in Montana, as you might imagine, and I liked the look of these bundles of fence_posts

Cimarron Canyon NM

Took a day trip thru Cimarron Canyon State Park - unfortunately it was not the ideal time of the day for light and I only had my normal lens with me.  I'll plan better next time and try for better shots.

Too Hot, Just Too Darn Hot

The heat has been oppressive, 104 in the shade with a heat index even higher.  So I was really surprised to open the door to let the dogs out this morning only to find this Popup LinkDoe standing there looking back at me!  The dogs just had to cross their legs and wait while I went for the camera!

Building up the gallery

By Frumious Boojum written 6/16/06 6:40 AM, published 6/16/06 6:40 AM
I'm rather new here, so I'm slowly building up the gallery.   I'm in a position where I'm really wanting to get as much exposure as possible.  This site seems like it might be a decent way to do that.   Well, for a while, I've done mostly purely through my account at deviantART, but as decent as it is, still not exactly what I want.

Well, the following are some pics of my backlog:

Popup LinkSteak 'n' Shake has been a rather big part of my life for the last few years.   It's a great place to spend several hours, working on just about anything, open 24 hours, so they'll always welcome you.   Though I haven't been there so much during the last couple of years, it still holds a bit of importance to me.  Here's a monoscopic shot I did with my Stereo Realist.   Had some major problems with the camera that night, so this is one of the few shots that came out decent.

Popup LinkHibernia is where I live.   It's the only apartment complex I've ever seen with its own cemetery right in the middle of the complex.   But that was because Carlisle Cemetery was closely connected to the old town of Hibernia, OH.   Hibernia, though, is now folded in as part of Columbus.  I have some slides of the cemetery.  Maybe I'll post them someday once I get the slides scanned.

This was a fun shoot...  had my roommate go up and start firing the flash at the building to illuminate it even more.   The ones living there didn't really enjoy it, though.  This is some of my digital photography.

Popup LinkThe Hunting Master -- well, Jaegermeister isn't something I actually enjoy, but I love the bottles.  Another Digital photo of mine.

I love infrared photography.  I've only done digital so far, though.   These shots of Popup LinkLake Hope and Popup LinkHope Furnace are from my first major experimentation with it and remains two of my favorite shots.

Day at the lake

When being at the lake because of a picknick of my wife's work, I wander off, away from all those people I don't know and take a walk along the lakeside.

Lake Mendota Sunset

By Lady Mazo written 4/30/06 7:09 PM, published 4/30/06 7:09 PM
I happened to be driving by Lake Mendota (Madison, WI) around sunset last week, so I parked myself near the lake and snapped a few shots. It started out to be a cloudy sunset but as the clouds passed, the lake and sky were absolutely beautiful...

I went to Goose Lake Prairie the other day, the migratory shore birds have been flying through and I was hoping to get some photos of them. It was very windy & I didn't see shore birds but I did see these:

Fugitive

By JustPeachy written 4/4/06 7:04 AM, published 4/4/06 7:04 AM

I felt the urge to run away Saturday night.  Grabbed the camera and jumped in my truck before the guys could catch me. I drove to Douglas Lake.  The water is still low and Popup Linkrocks were showing everywhere.  It was a beautiful evening down by the Popup Linkdock.  By the time I got to the Popup Linkbridge in Dandridge the Popup Linklight was fading fast.  Finished the evening in a dark corner with the coldest beer and best burger in Sevier County.  Went home after bedtime.

I couldn't run away again Sunday, so I escaped into the yard work.  The Popup Linktulips are Popup Linkfinally Popup Linkblooming. Even the Popup Linkphlox is showing off.  Had a fantastic day, made up with the guys and hated to see the weekend end.

The Hills Are Alive

I took a drive up in the  Popup Linkhills a few days ago. I came across this pretty little Popup Linklake.  Popup Link2.

Just looking at a lake gives one cause for pause, so I walked across the road and lightened my Popup Linkload.

This  Popup Linkguy was passing by as I was saying bye.

On the way home I stopped to shoot a Popup Linktree and look back at the Popup Linkhills when this Popup Linksight called.

Reflections & My Grandpa's Art

My Grandfather, Joseph Bouska was a carver on the Stone Mountain Georgia Monument for several years, but before and after that project, he worked at his everyday job of making/carving headstones. Since the artists did not sign their work, I am not sure if all of these are ones he did, but the time frame is right and they are all located at Bohemian National Cemetary in Chicago, where he sold his wares. Grandpa died before I was born and I only have "heresay" from my family about his which ones are his work. When I was a little girl we'd go to the cemetary and plant flowers on the relative's graves. Once I remember having my picture taken lying on the ground in front of the Stepping Angel, along with my cousin Cindy. This photo is somewhere in the family...don't know where. (Yes this makes me half Bohemian, one quarter Irish and one Quarter German) By the way, the cemetary has several outside tour guides that do seasonal walking tours of the headstones here because it is one of the most unusual places for headstones and funeral symbols in Chicagoland. The cemetary has also been used in the movies!

Thanks for looking.

Golden Wake at Twilight

By bullshoalsview written 3/6/06 5:05 PM, published 3/6/06 5:05 PM

We have had an abundance of red skies here on the lake this winter.  But tonight the sky's reflection on the lake was pure gold.  Boats coming in at Popup LinkTwilight left beautiful ripples across the water.  The sun dropped through the clouds Popup LinkSundrop and the lake sparkled like nature's diamonds.  Then the Popup LinkSun bid us good evening.

The red sky in the thumb was a couple of days ago.  None of the pictures have been photo-shopped.  I can't improve on Mother Nature when she is this good!  Comments and suggestions welcome....Thanks!
