This picture of a .LIGHTNING STRIKE  was taken in my backyard during a lightning storm. I've been trying to catch a bolt of lightning for a while. And I'm pretty happy I finally have one

I went out to White Sands to take advantage of the full moon. . . but got distracted:

Last night the sky started out like this, went to  this, then  this and, lastly this.  Needless to say, we had a heck of a storm!  *Note:  all those shots were handheld, no flash, and set on 1600 ISO.)

OK...I know this isn't the best picture of lightning but it is my first "real" attempt at capturing it so I thought I'd share.  It was taken through a window being pounded with rain and with a lens crudely wiped off after being caught in the storm.

Lightning

TOnight we went down to the beach, intending to check out the sunset.   But when I got there, the seaweed was positively GLOWING!   SO, I got a bunch  of shots of it   and then started trying to get some long exposure shots.   At one point, I popped off a token strangers shot.   ANd for the finale, I got a shot of lightening!!  I kind of cheated though, just pointed at where I last saw it, then kept shooting!  I took 600 shots tonight in about an hour and a half.  Most of them just trying to get the lightening.  

I had a great chance to try and catch a great lighting shot,this is the best one out of twenty. Also managed to grab a few pics of a beautiful stained glass window .

We were driving around and it got really dark, and I remembered I still had not changed my headlight. Since I already had a warning about this (oops) and already had the lightbulb, I pulled over to put it in before continuing.

Well, my husband put in the bulb while I shot this lightning. Actually, took a video and then a still, and my camera takes bad videos. Hence the bad quality of the photo.

But still, pretty cool. I love lightning.

As the Vancouverites can attest, we had one of the most awesome lightning storms in years last night. This is really one area that digital cameras excel... You can go through so many wasted shots before finally capturing that one elusive fork.
