Minnesota State Fair 2006 Part I

By tomnorth written 9/2/06 11:53 AM, published 9/2/06 11:53 AM
Yesterday we spent practically the entire day at the Minnesota State Fair.  One of the themes of the day was animal fashion statements. Get the nerve of this Popup Linkhorse wearing Anna's top. This one looks like a Popup Linkthrowback to the sixties. And here's a Popup Linkcool dude among some fashion-challenged friends.  Tomorrow, the sleeping theme.

The answer is:

The answer to yesterday's question, why is the one side of the Geese V longer than the other Popup LinkSnow Geese V, as tgjohnmaz said, there are more geese on the longer side.

The faces I saw in the Popup LinkEvil Log, look at the far end of the log where the two horns stick up and in front of that you will see a dragon head complete with the right eye, and, in the foreground where it begins to go out of focus is a face...eyes, nose and mouth.

A few more shots I picked up yesterday:

North Dakota Prairie Shots

Okay, I'm going to give this another go to see if I can get the hang of this thing.

On our way back from Glacier National Park on highway 85 in western North Dakota I stopped to take a late-afternoon picture of this prairie Popup Linkcemetery. We've probably driven by this cemetery a dozen times over the years and I've always sworn I was going to get a picture. This time I did.  I had to dodge cowpies as the cemetery was surrounded by open pasture.  This Popup Linkcow was watching me closely. I made sure there were no bulls among the cows.  I also eyed the barbed-wire fence to see if I could hurdle it in a pinch.  On the way back to the car I saw these Popup Linksunbeams shining down on the golden fields. Whoever said the prairie isn't pretty?

The Puyallup Fair

You can do it at a trot
You can do it at a gallup
You can do it real slow so your heart don't palpitate
So don't be late
Do the Puyallup

So goes the infectious jingle of the Puyallup Fair in Washington State. For the last few years I have visited the fair clutching my Nikon and soaking up the wonderful absurdity that abounds there.
One of my favorite parts of the fair are the collections that people accumulate. For example here is someone's collection of Popup Linkfigurines playing the flute.
One of the oddest Popup Linkcollections is Eldon's obsession with bread bag fasteners.
Some are lucky enough to win Popup Linkfirst prize
There is a great diversity of livestock there such as this Popup Linkchicken and a more Popup Linkpatriotic breed
There are also Popup Linkcows and Popup Linkinformative signs to teach us about livestock.
Sometimes people do very creative things with Popup Linkproduce.
Yes much of the food has an air of magic about it as can be seen in this photo which I call Popup Linkfantastic sausage.
The people watching there is great too. Here are a few shots of some:

and finally Popup LinkThe Carny
