Tribute to Carol Ellis
I didn't know Carol very well at all, but we were facebook and photographica friends. I am deeply saddened by her loss. When I heard about her passing, I was in shock. This is the 2nd time someone I knew, however briefly, suddenly died. It reminds me of how precious life is, and how we can't dwell on yesterday, for it is gone, we can't live for the future because it isn't here yet...all we are guaranteed is today, the present. It is a gift to live in the present. It is all we really have. I plan to live a little more in the here and now in Carol's honor. It is the least I can do.
I went to the St. Louis Zoo with Robin on Saturday, and found they had a few beautiful waterfalls. The one I am adding to this story is my favorite. I wanted something beautiful for our tribute to Carol, and I found it. I present...Waterfall. Thanks, y'all.
Lone Elk Park & Route 66 State Park with Robin
On Sunday, Robin and I went out to Lone Elk Park & Route 66 State Park in Missouri. It was so HUMID & HOT at Route 66 State Park!!! We covered about 2 1/2 miles walking through the park, but there was much more to see. My lungs & neuropathy held me back, though...grrrrrrrr. Still, we saw deer, elk, buffalo, bumblebees, damselflies, flowers, and even a bunny. Oh, and some enormous spiderwebs, too, yuck. Anyhoo, I chose 8 photos out of my 120 keepers (1200 or so originally) to share with ya'll, for your viewing and critiquing pleasure. Here they are...and thanks...
Finally A Tulip from Our Tulip Tree & Some Teeny Flowers
Yup, our tulip tree finally bloomed. It wasn't easy, but I finally got a tulip down from the high branches. Unfortunately I damaged one of the petals, but decided to shoot it anyway. I'm including one of the tulip shots, and a couple of some wonderful little flowers I found...someone said they may be chamomile. I adore these little flowers!
Thanks for lookin and for commenting. I'd comment more but I just don't know what the heck I can give in constructive criticism when I'm still such a beginner... =/
GEAG Art Contest Again - 2 Contenders
Hiiiiii...time for another GEAG art contest tomorrow night. I have narrowed it down to 2 photos, both printed out 8x10, and both look great. One is gonna be very hard to frame, but I could figure something out. Anyway, PLEASE vote on which one you think I should enter. I am really stumped. Thanks, for lookin' and votin'.
4-23-2011 Windows to the Soul
Hi...just a quick post. I'm thinking of entering a photo I took of Codi's eyes this past weekend into the May GEAG art contest. I'm just curious to see what ya'll think of it. Sooo please let me know, this time the file size is larger so I can get it printed out 8x10 or however large I decide I want it. Thanks for looking and for commenting.
4-20-2011 At Mark's.
Hi, gang. The other night we went over to my bro-in-law's house. I took over 1400 pics of everyone & the cats, lol. They have 5 cats, 4 kids; only 3 of the kids were there. Took me till yesterday afternoon to finish sorting & editing the pics, but I finally got them done. I'm uploading 3 of my faves here: Nose to nose, Lokis w/ Nevermore (most the cats are named for Edgar Allen Poe), and Zoeykinz. She is our niece. They are over here today, too, playing boxing on our wii at the moment, so I'm gonna post these and go for now. Thanks for lookin' and for any so welcome comments. =) And Happy Easter!!!
Heidi & a Red~Winged Blackbird
Good evening. We cleaned out the basement the other day & Heidi got silly. Then the cat was in the bag. The last shot is one I took on my last outing with Robin. Keeping it short because it's late and I have a busy day tomorrow-tomorrow is Codi~Day!!!
Have a great weekend, everyone!!!
Red winged blackbird.
Just One for Now...
Hi, all, good afternoon. I'm still editing the photos from last weekend's Codi~did visit, but I have one I did this morning of her that I just love. I'm hoping I didn't over do the vignetting...I was very careful how much I used and where I placed it...its so much fun, now that I can do it much easier, but I know I'm still learning, so bear with me. This is a rare serious shot of my little ham, for once. Right after a couple serious shots she was hamming it up again. She just can't resist. Anyway, thanks for looking, and for commenting. Hereeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's Codi~did!!!
Tulip Pollen and a Blue Jay
This afternoon I was gazing out back when I spotted the tulip that was blooming before the snowstorm/cold snap hit. It is still alive and blooming!!! I was so happy it made it through that I got my camera and shoes on, and hustled myself right over to it. Even if it IS technically in the neighbor's yard, after 4 years of living here he's gotta know by now I'm gonna shoot the tulip each spring. So no, he didn't hassle me, and I got some wonderful shots of the tulip...and of a lone blue jay who was hanging about by our bird feeder, which we DID have to move to please the aforementioned neighbor. Then, after I had cropped and edited the pics, I set one in particular as my desktop image, and it gave me a rather unique view of the picture. Tom said he could help me set the picture as it appears on the desktop, and we did, using Adobe Photoshop Elements. These are my first real Springtime photos...and its about time, even though more snow and cold is still on the way. Thank you for looking at these, and for any & all comments...here they are....
Couple Shots To Share
The other day I got a couple good shots of Heidi. I don't remember why I got such an angle on it, but it works, I think. Then I ventured outside yesterday, and found the first tulip of spring blooming out back. Today its 36 degrees again, with highs of the 40's for the next week. Hope it makes it through this cold snap...c&c welcome and thanks for looking....
Is this better or...?
Hi, all! I fiddled with adobe again, and a have a neat result...at least I think so. I followed the written instructions I have, up to a point, and got a result I wasn't expecting. Let me know what ya'll think. =) Thanks!
Codi n Momma Vignette
Okay, I watched the video on youtube that Pat sent me, carefully wrote down each step in the process, then tried it out...and...well, it kinda worked, kinda didn't. Then as I was cussing at my adobe because it wouldn't do what it was supposed to be doing at that step, my husband came in to see why I was cussing, and said he could show me how to do vignetting. Great, I said, show me. So he did. Even though we did it twice, I remember none of it. It was completely different than the video, and I have to either do it several times or have written instructions on something to learn it. I'm going to post our finished photograph, let me know what you think, c&c most welcome...thanks for bearing with my slowness and duhness, and thanks Pat for helping...here it is:
Okay, I just spent half my day going through recent pics and editing them and whatnot...I have one for consideration for the GEAG contest. Treetops just doesn't feel right to me-although it is still in the running-I don't know why, but something about it just bugs me...anyway, let me know what ya'll think of this one. Its dark on purpose, b&w actually, with an effect called Old Gold. Its actually some fresh fallen snow next to a single drop of water on a porch swirly decoration...thanks for looking, and for your comments and input. =)
Pics for Consideration for GEAG
Hi. The other day some friends and I went to Centennial Park here in town. Two of the four of us had our cameras with us, and were lagging behind, because we kept finding things to photograph. The park is lovely, with a sturdy wooden bridge leading onto a long, winding path through the forest.
March's GEAG meeting is coming up in a week or so, and I can't decide which photo to enter into the competition. I have 3 I am considering. So, I decided to let ya'll look at them and have a say. Thanks for looking, and for commenting. It is much appreciated!!!
Last night we went to a Valentine's Day Dance. I was outside with my Canon just after the sun had set, and I looked up and found the moon through some tree branches directly above me. This is my first shot of the moon with my new Canon Rebel... I was really surprised, once I had cropped it and looked at it up close. You can actually see some of the craters. THAT just blew me away. I'm going to keep trying to catch it when I can, so bear with me if it isn't perfect. It was my only moon shot that came out. But like I said, it was my first attempt, and it sure won't be my last!!! =)
Just an Experiment Gone Awry Lol
I was experimenting with my Canon and light and shadows yesterday, and I finally got one picture I liked. I'm still tweaking another one, but I like this one better anyway, so here it is.
Good evening. Yesterday was an awesome Codi visit...and ya'll know I live for those visits. I got an awesome shot of her during the visit...then when we were saying goodbye I gave Tom my camera and had him shoot us. He did great, as you can tell by the last 2 photos. Those photos show one thing: love. The love my Codi & I share is so intense, so wonderful, and the last photo SO shows it. Even though Tom took 2 of these, I had to share. Thanks for putting up with me, people, and thanks for helping me become a better photographer. ;)
A thorn loves a rose
Like dew loves a flower
But dew dries with the sun
After but a few hours.
The rose feels the thorn
Always pressing in its side.
The thorn feels the dew
And grows happy when it dries.
