Reflection Of Summer's Love
Because of the current theme, I thought this might be an appropriate post. My sister, Norma, passed away on January 10th. She was three years older than me, and my idol when I was growing up. She married her husband, Butch, in her early twenties, and he was a brother to me. Yesterday, he went to join her. I don't think he could imagine living in this world without her. His broken heart just couldn't overcome and keep beating. Theirs was a great romance that overcame many obstacles, but never faltered. This is a photo I took of them when they were dating in 1970 Norma Butch 1, and this was the last photo I ever took of them during a visit in 2007 (their daughter also in the photo). Norma Butch 2.
I don't want votes (this isn't intended to represent my work), and I know that neither of these photos is a technical coup. I hope you will forgive me if I just wanted to post this for emotional reasons.

Saturday morning peanut platter at BSV's house....Thanks for Lookin!
My Christmas Day was spent at the fire station, and it was quite busy. My family exchanged Christmas gifts the night before. My daughter apologized that I wouldn't be able to receive my gift for another week or so. Since then I have been quite busy with work and life, and had just about forgotten that something special was coming for me. Thursday evening the sound of a large truck sqeaking to a stop resonated through the open windows at our house. Jana leaped up like a world class sprinter exploding out of the blocks. As she grabbed the small, flat box from the delivery man's hands, it was quite clear, Christmas time was here.We all convened in the master bedroom for the opening of my gift. What transpired in the next few seconds overwhelmed me. Actually, overwhelmed doesn't quite do it justice. I was speechless. As I unwrapped the package I saw a book. More aptly, My Book. My daughter researched through Photographica and edited 48 of my stories, sent them to a publisher, and had my words published. It has always been a dream of mine to publish a book and she made that dream come true.
Each page bears some of my Signature ramblings and photographs. One extra gift was the reuniting of Hana's Story with Hana's long lost Father.
As much as I loved the book, there is truly a greater gift I was given that day. On lulu.com you can search "McNeel". The book will have a preview that includes her forward. Long after the pages fade, her love and adoration will live on within my heart. Many authors and poets have written volumes on life and it's meaning. But surely those greatest things evern penned were written upon the hearts of men.
All of these pictures are of my cat Simba except for the last one. The black cat next to him is his brother Moe. Moe has a really great story to tell and I will feature him on the next post and tell you all about it. Both cats were born in the same litter along with a third cat. They were all males. Simba is going to be tested very soon for kidney disease and if by chance he has it his other brother (Not Moe) will be the organ donor and will be donating a kidney for him. I never had children so I always tell people these are my furry children. Simba 2 Simba 3 Simba 4 Simba 5 Simba 6 Simba 7 Simba Moe
The fam went out to hit the slopes yesterday and when i was able to pry the camera away from my wife, I got a few images of my own. seneca was my boarding partner. He bought his own burton board and is really starting to rock the slopes. I didn't get to take any pics of my daughter, turtle, going down the hills, but I got some cute stuff of them together. I played with some lighting stuff and got this one of them together, and this one playing with motion.
So many unexpected things pop into view. This Seashell Mushroom, whose texture looked nothing like its spongy reality. This Flower whose unexpected colors caught my eye, even though it was only the size of my thumbnail. These were The Same but Different, as things in nature so often are. And, even the Decay has beauty. In the end, even when you cannot see it, there is evidence of life.
I was doing the dreaded picture organizing and came across these beauties from this summer...monarch
Hey, Surferguy, tell that stud muffin friend of yours to meet me under the Huntington Beach Pier at sundown and we will shake some booty!
Did you catch anything yet?
It's all about Symmetry
Inn or Out?
White or Red Wine?
These are some of the creatures that love hanging out on the branches.
Chris always had a miniature schnauzer growing up, so, when he saw this puppy for sale, yep, Taylor came home with us. Now, I feed him, clean him, and have fun with him!catch me Ball racing, not barrell racing na na na!! Dancin' These shots are not that great, but, at 12 wks old, he is so funny and smart! his trick list consists of sit, stay, down, crawl, roll over, high five, and kisses!!
My son had been over seas when they gave him emergency leave to come home to be with his 3 month premature daughter. This photo was taken when he first held his daughter. None of us had held her so he could be the first. It is hard to tell, but he had tears running down his face and was asking God to let her live. She is now an beautiful 10 year old girl. I took out the hospital machines because I wanted you to focus on only the two of them.A Father's Love
