Acadia Tips for Wildman and Birdie.

I know Wildman and Birdie are taking trip to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor in Maine later this month.  So, I thought this post of helpful info and tips might be useful to them, or not.  First off, I gotta say that we were early before their season actually started so a lot of hotels, restaurants, and attractions weren't open yet but it wasn't crowded either.  In four days we only seen about a dozen people in the park.

We stayed at the Atlantic Oakes by the Sea which was one of the few places open then that had rooms oceanside.  Here's our  our room   It was nice and clean but a tad small and the female companion wasn't included in the price.  She costs extra... and if there's a casino nearbly, a lot extra!  Here's the view  off the balcony   where I planned to get shots of the Cat Ferry landing...except it didn't start running till a couple days after we left.

Be sure to get into downtown Bar Harbor.  There are a lot of quaint little shops like this one which can supply ALMOST all your  Hemp needs .  If it doesn't you should stop by SG's on the way for some brownies.  The town also has dockside restaurants and a  Ramp that if you get down to about where the arrow points you begin to slowly and inexorably get drawn into the sea on the slime.  I managed to make my way to the edge and made it out ok without getting wet by crab-walking on all fours... ironically, this  little guy   didn't make it. Be sure to engage the locals who are  friendly and well-educated . Bar Harbor is a college town so beware of  hula-hooping students while driving.

When you go to the Acadia be sure to stop by  Thunder Hole by the way, it was named that before Barb posed for this shot.  Also make your way to the top of Cadillac mountain.  You can hike or drive all the way to the top.  It's a great view and a great place to just stare off into space and  ponder   the great questions or life.  Like "How low can I carry his telephoto before I reach the point he starts yelling?"... answer: "You're already $%#@*&%*  past it!"

Also keep your eyes out for the wildlife.  Turkey, deer, moose, and whales, to name a few,  may be seen in Maine.  I happened to luck out and get a shot of  two Blue Whales kissing . (Actually, this was shot in Mystic,CT but sometimes you don't want to be strictly factual when storytelling.)

I hope you guys have a safe and fun trip and these tips help you out during your visit. It's a great place and maybe we'll make it back there someday... when it's open.  If you think this story will piss Barb off if she sees it, you're right but I haven't found her breaking point in 36 years so I'm probably safe... probably!  Oh, in case you don't know me, this story is a joke so no need to critique the photos.

This weekend I took a short road trip along the coast of MA, NH and Maine.  Although I was TRYING to get a good reflection shot, without knowing it was the new theme, this was my failed attempt.  But, I kinda liked it anyway.

And, of course, a trip to Maine would not be right without taking a picture of the already overphotographed  Nubble light house.

Here are a couple more. lonely boat      more boats

These are just a little sneek peek at my visit to Maine last October.  This one is of the beautiful colored leaves on the mountain.  The next one is of the only beach around.  This one is of just one of the many inlets around in Maine.  This is of the moonrise on my last night there.  Enjoy.

Sunset past.

I'm digging through my negs now that I can scan them. Just another I thought I would post. I've not been shooting as I'm getting over a pinched nerve in my shoulder, so bear with me as I re-discover past shots. These were taken in Maine. 1 2  3

Well, I had to return the Canon scanner that I bought. It had some sort of light bleed around the print. It also, had a tendency to scan in quite a bit lighter than the print. I may have been able to correct that, but the light bleed HAD to go! I got in it's place an Epson 2580. So far I'm really pleased with it. Anyway, first print from it.Acadia Island lighthouse
