Today we drove down to Henderson, Minnesota for Henderson Heritage Days.  I took a hike up to the local cemetery.  It was an overcast day so I thought some close in work would be best.  Here is a marker for a woman who had a fascinating first name--Experience Bennett. She died in 1875 at the age of 70 years, 6 days.  She was a mother. Lloyd was some couple's son.  He died too young.

This is the last of my images from the 2006 Minnesota State Fair.  I'm interested in your opinion.  Do you prefer the black & white or color version?

I was attracted to the light streaming in at the far end of the barn.  And who can resist all those steel girders.

Because of the desire to bring out some of the details in the shadows without blowing out the highlights I did work this a little in CS2.  Nothing extreme, just a little masking.

During our day at the fair on Friday we saw lots of sleeping going on.  I don't think I'd sleep so close to that end of a cow's anatomy.  Sleeping in the barns seemed to be the most popular.  Of course we saw animals sleeping too, like this porker who won the biggest bore contest weighing in at 1,040 pounds.  But my recollection is that we saw more human-types sleeping than animals.  You might be able to tell from this last shot that I was very nearly on the same plane as my subject.  Hmmm, I wonder why.  zzzzz

Yesterday we spent practically the entire day at the Minnesota State Fair.  One of the themes of the day was animal fashion statements. Get the nerve of this horse wearing Anna's top. This one looks like a throwback to the sixties. And here's a cool dude among some fashion-challenged friends.  Tomorrow, the sleeping theme.

These are some photos I took at the International Wolf Center in Ely Minnesota. Leader of the pack I have been there many times, but on this day the wolves were hanging out where you could see them pretty good.Relaxing After watching them for a while I concluded they are just big dogs, with all the usual dog behavior.kiss These timberwolves are very big and they live in the wild up here. In the winter especially you can hear packs of them howling.the pack They are agile hunters, here is one on the prowl. I met a teenager from our church for a photo shoot Saturday morning down by the Mississippi. It was  cloudy and threatening rain. I got some shots under the Stone Arch Bridge. I also took some shots of the old mill and new Guthrie Theatre side by side. Unfortunately we got rained out.  We agreed that we'll do it again under better weather circumstances.

We were at the Minnesota State Fair on Friday, and here is some of the pictorial evidence:

Went across town last weekend to see the winter carnival. This is for all the sculptors whose hard work melted away after only one week.

The ice dragon . Beware of fire- you may just melt yourself.

Replica of the state capitol . The blue light was a bonus as another photographer took a picture using flash at the same time I took this shot without flash.

Molding the monster . What is King Kong's next target? Could it be the basilica?
