A few scenics

By LindasJon written 6/8/06 3:17 PM, published 6/8/06 3:17 PM
Here are a a few "scenic" shots I have taken.

Previous post feedback encouraged moving the horizon line away from the middle of the frame; Good advice, but it seems I have done this here a few times as well. Gotta watch that.

Please pick them apart at random as you see fit.

My camera is in for repair, so I'm only addressing half the challenge at this time.  However, I tried to make my three picks tie in to the theme of natural light.  The last two images have been posted here before.

This was shot at the Popup LinkSanta Fe photography workshop I attended in March.
This Popup Linkcow with an attitude was shot on our way home from Glacier National Park last summer.
This Popup Linksilhouette of Sinopah Mountain was shot on slide film a few summers ago.  I scanned it using a Nikon film scanner.

So glad I didn't have to drive in these, coming thru Yellowstone was bad enough but just looking at the Tetons was enough to give me chills when thinking about driving in them.  Popup LinkTetons Black and White I do like the angle and how the mountains look as if they run into the Snake River.  Let me know how you like.

My husband and I have been traveling across country from MI to BC since 1964 since we were going to school in MI and had family in BC.  We passed this spot for many years until after we were empty nesters again.  Then one year we just decided to check it out.  You can not really see it from the interstate except for a brief glimpse.  Now we can't drive past without stopping and taking a walk around it.  The basic walk takes us about an hour and a half.  We were just debating how far the walk is and we do know it is more than a mile.  Most of the time when we have walked it there have been people climbing to the top, but that is only allowed in certain spots and only by registered climbers.  Here is a close up from the walk around.
Popup LinkClose-up Tower    Here are some distance shots from the drive in to the park.  Popup LinkTower 2 , Popup LinkTower 3 , Popup LinkTower 4.  Wouldn't it be great to get a shot from the top?

I am thinking back to my summer vacation on this cold Michigan night.  As the snow is falling I am thinking about my walk on the mountain sides in Washington state as I viewed Popup LinkMount St. Helens, this time when we visited we found that we had another visitors center to go to even higher up then several years ago.  This center gave us a more direct view of Popup LinkMount St. Helens, and we had a beautiful day to see it.  The cloud in this picture just would not move fast enough for me Popup Linkto see the mountain top.  At least this was better than the last time we visited here.  The clouds were so thick that time that we could not see the mountain at all.   We have visited the mountain three times since it erupted and each time we see new things and it is wonderful to see the changes in nature.

Hi all, I know it doesn't seem like I was gone cause Cyberly, I wasn't, thanks to Wi-Fi Broadband connections at most of the Motels.

Got back last night after a little 3356 Mile Drive through the Pac No. West. WOW is this a Great part of America, Or as the people who live there say. This Place Sucks, do not Move Here:) But I saw so many spectacular sights I was overwhelmed as was my  Hard-drive with 1400 Photos and 14GB of file space!

This was my 1st truly Photographic Vacation. As far as that part went, it was a little bit of a Disappointment. Either, the weather was bad or the time of day was wrong or someone needed to make dinner reservations.... well you know how it is when you are not alone to photograph and why Pro's can get better shots cause they can sit in a spot for a week till the shot is just right. Traveling with someone you don't have that luxury... well also the other thing in I'm just not that good so even when opportunity knocked, I didn't get the shot I wanted.. you know.. That perfect shot of a lifetime.

So I will be posting some vacation shots other than what you have seen already. As much as my Dell 700M preformed a myriad of tasks, Downloading Pix, GPS Navigation, E-mail, internet Etc. Editing is not it's forte with a 12.1" Screen. So Now I will go through them all and pick 5 to 10 good shots to post of my 12 Days.

Here are a couple goofy ones till I get the better ones ready.

Popup LinkA or Popup LinkB? I was playing with focal point and DOF. Isn't that an eye doctor thing?
Went up the river and the color wasn't there and as low as the water level was, there weren't much in the way of rapids either. I packed it up and went up on top of the pass to shoot a few.

The old White Pass Yukon Route was built to carry miners and their gear to the gold fields of Alaska during the Alaska gold rush. This narrow gauge line runs from Skagway, over White Pass to the Yukon. Today it is back and running as a tourist line.

This photo was taken in Majorca (Mallorca) about 20 minutes after a humid thunder storm. There was hardly any rain so the visibility was good. There were kids running up the jetty and diving off it, so I have to be quick getting this photo.

It was shot handheld using a Canon 10D and a Canon 28-135 IS lens. Click Popup Linkhere to view the photo.

The San Juan Islands are located 60 miles north of Seattle, and south west of Bellingham. To get to any of the main islands - Lopez, Shaw, Orcas or San Juan Island - you need to Popup Linktake a Popup Linkferry. It can take up to 2 hours to get where you are going (not including at least an hour wait in line). While in line, you can Popup Linkclimb a tree.
