I write the songs (well, they do)

By MDC written 5/1/08 6:30 AM, published 5/1/08 6:30 AM
I took some pictures this weekend for my husband and his song writing partner.  They wanted to get some shots of the equipment in the studio to put on their website (which is under construction).  I won't bore you with all the tequipment shots.  So, here are just a few of my favorites.

Music in the Park

By Pyro43 written 9/9/06 12:57 PM, published 9/9/06 12:57 PM

There's an organization here in Grafton called Grafton Area Live Arts (g.a.l.a.)that presents weekly live music in one of the parks on Thursday evenings. Each week there is a different type of music. Some of the musicians play in the gazebo located in the park while others prefer to be at ground level in order to be closer to the crowd. I love all the music, and I also love the opportunity to move around the park and get pictures of the entertainers and crowds from different angles. (Karen always complains when I leave her sitting alone while I'm out on my picture taking adventures, but I always treat her to a couple margaritas later.) This year we were able to hear:

An old time brass band  Popup Link
Does anyone have more fun than an Irish group? Popup Link
How about some Bluegrass?Popup Link
NOTE: When the entertainment is on the ground, the gazebo is mine!
A happy circus band in the gazebo Popup Link
Wonderful music of Ecuador Popup Link
A German band playing in the gazebo due to rain, still makes its way through the crowd for one number. Popup Link I like how the umbrellas add color to this shot.

I have been honored by the Grafton Chamber of Commerce. Remember that Bluegrass shot from the gazebo? It's on the cover of the new directory.Popup Link

The Wonderful Newtonburg Band

By Pyro43 written 7/15/06 6:00 PM, published 7/15/06 6:00 PM
We went to the park just last Thursday
To hear a good old brass band.
The one we were gonna be hearin’
Is the wonderful Popup LinkNewtonburg Band.

There were other folks there to enjoy ‘em
On Popup Linkblankets and also on  Popup Linkchairs.
The members all pitched in to Popup Linksetup
As soon as the whole band was there.

The band then changed into their Popup Linkcostumes
From four score and six years ago.
They sat down and Popup Linkstarted up playin'
The grand notes all sweetly did flow.

With eyes closed I started to ponder
The simpler days long gone by
When parks were all filled every Sunday
For Popup Linkmusic in the heat of July.

The Popup Linktuba would boom like the thunder,
The Popup Linkpiccolo tweet like a bird,
The Popup Linktrombones' glissandos were gorgeous,
The Popup Linkclarinets notes could be heard.

The Popup Linkleader was tellin’ some jokes now,
And Popup Linkall seemed to be so sublime.
The Popup Linkold men were dancin’ and prancin’
And havin’ a wonderful time.

I was snorin’ when somebody nudged me
To bring me back from the past
To Popup Linkkids being pushed by their daddies
And folks Popup Linksittin' out on the grass.

I knew I’d been sleepin’ and dreamin’
But oh, it was certainly grand
For the chance to Popup Linkdream and to Popup Linklisten
To the Popup LinkWonderful Newtonburg Band.

Challenge Entry

Triple action

By Arddwyn written 6/9/06 10:34 AM, published 6/9/06 10:34 AM
I was really excited when I read this morning about the new challenge with action pictures because I love to experiment with the camera. I was looking to post a couple of pictures of my vacation that just ended a few days ago and it seems I have a few action pictures there to start with.
I know there are plenty of Sea World pictures around, but I couldn't resist to include thisPopup Linkflying leap in my entry. We encountered this African Musicians that were really energetic and had the fastest  Popup Linkhands I've ever seen. I took three shots at different speeds trying to freeze the hands while moving and they all had the Blur movement in them. Finally this one was taken a few weeks ago. I had a friend walk in front of the camera at night while I shinned a flashlight on her for this Popup LinkLong exposure shot.

Not our Regular bass player

By tenor11 written 2/20/06 5:17 AM, published 2/20/06 5:17 AM
Out on a band job (Gig) recently with our Popup Linkmature trio.
Before our group played Popup Linkthese three men performed some Latin songs.
The bassist, a local jazz legend, agreed to fill in for the "regular" bass player, and the result was...well you would have had to have been there!

Tags, Bags, & Hags

By MissElanious written 10/28/05 10:23 AM, published 10/28/05 10:23 AM
I am so excited about the new tag feature on this website.  Some nutcase must have spent all day working on this masterpiece.  I thought that I would write a photo poem to commemorate the effort of this brilliant soul.

One day I was shopping,
and when I opened my Popup Linkbag,
I saw something strange,
it was an old Popup Linkhag!

She looked right at me
and it scared me you see,
simply because
she started talking to me!

The hag forewarned me,
and this is what she said:
if I left her behind
she would implant a
Popup Linktag
in my head!

I stopped short,
I said "oh no!"
I went back in
and told Popup Linkmy friend
"let's go!"

Explaining Myself

By fauxtoes written 10/21/05 12:11 AM, published 10/21/05 12:11 AM
First off, my name is Shannon. I have an Popup Linkaddiction. But I'm coping...
I am a Popup LinkStudent at Arizona State, but I am originally from Popup LinkLong Island, New York. All my life I have loved to Popup Linkswim, so it isn't all that surprising that I became a Popup LinkLife Guard as soon as I was old enough. I am a proud Popup Linkauntie to 9 neices and nephews. I am also a relatively new Popup Linkmommy. My Popup Linkfriends are really important to me.
I really love Popup Linkmusic. After seven years of loyalty as a fan I nearly died when I met this Popup Linkmusician last year.(You get brownie points if you can tell me who he is.)
As for me I'm half
Popup Linkshy and quite, and half Popup Linknutz.
Popup LinkPhotography is the passion that brought me here so I am really excited to get to know you all a little better.

Some more Music (Country style)

By firemark written 10/8/05 10:38 PM, published 10/8/05 10:38 PM

Last night, I helped with the sound for a young country singer by the name of               Boomer McClennan.    Boomer's got a website at www.BoomerM.com

Boomer's a classy guy, and a terrific performer.  I had lots of time on my hands once things got going so I took  some photos.    I'd love to hear what you think.  These are straight from the camera, reduced to 800 pixels wide.  No sharpening, etc. (I've not had the time).  I shot hand-held, at ISO 1600, with Available light (mostly).

RANT ON ANOTHER SUBJECT FOLLOWS
This photo Popup LinkIRONYis from another day.. .taken in a local mall.  A few moments later, I was accosted by mall security demanding that I stop photographing "the structure"... (apparently some fear of terrorists using photos to 'case' the joint.)  Really, if I were a terrorist, I'd use a camera phone, surreptitiously, not a DSLR, with Flash.

Geez.. aren't our freedoms being encroached just a bit too much these days?

We went to one of the local Mexican Restaurants tonight to hear an authentic Mariachi Band.  We'd heard them before, but I didn't have my camera that time.  Although I can't understand the songs, I love to listen to them; if it's got a beat, I'm moving to it.....

Here's my entry for my favorite song; should be easy enough to guess.  Popup LinkSong Popup LinkGroup
Hope y'all enjoy!
