Another "Crop" of Pictures
My daughter performed in her school's spring concert yesterday, and, of course, I took my camera. I was very excited, because I scored some front row seats for myself and my wife.
Unfortunately, I failed to consider the unfortunate conflation of tall music stands with short musicians - leading me into another experiment with cropping my photos: Best seats in the house?
Later, when we went out to celebrate at the local ice cream place, I discovered that the subjects of your photos ALSO have a say in how your photos are cropped: No pictures please!
But, it wasn't all bad news - I discovered that future of photography is in good hands: Budding Photographer
Savannah, Georgia: Forsyth Park

Forsyth Park was created in 1851 and is 20-acres large. It has been the scene of many Civil War re-enactments. The fountain found in the middle of the park has appeared in several movies that have been filmed in Savannah, including "Forest Gump" and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." The park is always crowded with people of all ages and cultures.
A break from the festival

Today we're going to do a 180. From fun to art (or at least I think it is). A small backstory... I got the idea to shoot this subject back during Spring Break. Playing with a dead leaf while michael was working on his car at his house, I realized I could literally pull a vein out of the leaf. It was no wider than a strand of hair and no longer than 1/2 inch. I looked at it, studied it and then it hit me... Macro + extension tubes! I quickly ran inside and attempted to make an impromptu shoot outside where I lost the thread due to the wind, so I gathered some more leaves to play with later in the week.
That day came, I set up something black to lay it on, picked at the leaves until I got another satisfactory vein and did a shoot with natural light. I posted 2 on flickr and got some feedback. The two biggest suggestions I applied to my next shoot (early this month) was increased DOF and different backgrounds (oh and focal point). I'm quite pleased with the way they came out this time around.
Shot at 11 p.m. at night using an external flash with a hand-fashioned bounce card at 90mm macro + 78mm of extension tubes, these are my results:
Thanks for looking and sorry I talk so much. I just thought the backstory might help in viewing them. As for the festival, I'll return to it next week sometime. I only have jousting, human chess and Paolo Garbanzo left. Have a great day and comments, critiques and suggestions are always welcome and taken with a smile!
Talk.
Sitting around camp
While sitting around camp, I decided that the best way to enjoy nature was to let the little (and big) birds come to me. So one afternoon I did. This little one checked out the fire pit, I called him Smokey the Birdie. Geese were very prevalent, I caught this one watching a family swim by, and these got their gooslings all in a row. Across the little inlet, I was able to capture this heron. While on a walk, hey I didn't stay in camp all the time, I was able to photograph this pretty red bird.
An Uncommon Group . . . .

The only thing these pictures have in common is that I took them on a recent trip to Montana.
We had record snowfall amounts in the North Cascades this winter, and this is the result of the spring melt (it was raining in addition to the spray and mist, resulting in an almost dreamlike quality - except for the deafening roar of the water) Snoqualmie_Falls1
This one I should have had for the BLUE challenge - how many shades can you count (aqua counts too) Flathead_Lake (I know the horizon should be higher or lower, but I couldn't move it without losing shades of blue in the sky or water).
And finally, lots of timber industry in Montana, as you might imagine, and I liked the look of these bundles of fence_posts
Heaven's above, that water's fowl
Senior Pic (Edited)

I posted some senior pics sometime last week. I received several comments about this one. The original was basically the raw photo. Based on the comment made, I did some editing and produced this result. I think this is a little better.
PS. For those who made comments, the "indians" are no longer in the picture :>)

Dancing at the Ren Faire

After the bellydancing Monday, I thought I'd show you a sexy rennaisance dance (or that's what Lady Ophelia called it when she asked the Queen if she'd like to partake in a dance).
I now present you Queen Elizabeth in some rennaisance dancing.
Thanks for looking. As always, comments are fully appreciated (just because they're fun you can still critique if you want or see fit).
Wild Ones!!

We had to come up north to care for some in the family that are ill and give some moral support to a friend that lost her mother. While the weather here has made us shrivel up and keep a supply of tissues for our runny noses because of the cold and all the pollen on top of it, the northern wild flowers are awesome. At least to me.
First though is a shot of what we down south have avoided all winter. It is still HERE!! left_over_in_May That is Mt. Sunapee in case you want to know.
But now here are a few of The Wild Ones Most of these were taken in New Hampshire, around the Newport area.
Here is the thumb, just for good measure. You may note that it hasn't really bloomed yet while the Connecticut ones have about gone by. lilac
