~ Best of 2011....from me...~
Okay.. a month late or so, but here it is.
This year, I concentrated so much on Matthew's finally year of highschool that I didnt get alot time to find photo op's. Ya know... I make no excuses for what I've taken, but love what Ive done.
Matthew had a great year. He was Michael Scott, the character that was added in the theatrical version of the High School Musical. He had his Senior Prom with Casey, a very proud Daddy took his High School Graduation photo of the year.... went to Yosemite and got a shot of Half Dome under clouds, and even went to San Fransisco for a day and caught some nature there.
But I'd have to say that my favorite photo of 2011 isn't one of those above(although I love them greatly), but my favorite shot is a photo that wasnt even taken by me, but by a friend of mine at the Mens Conference. Father and Son sharing a laugh ...... life is grand.
More Fall Shots
I didn't find very many things that inspired a photo this saturday on our 4 hour hike. But I did manage to take a few. Not too sure any's my best work but I liked them enough to edit them.
Thanks for looking! Comments and suggestions always appreciated.
Challenge - Water
The mountains are for me a very difficult place to get a good in-camera photo. This one was the worst because taken a high noon and even processing doesn't get the image to show the way it really looked. Could use some advise. AND as usual I forgot to include the original photo so you'd have something to compare--duh!
original photo: Crater Lake OR OK so there are very dark and very light areas in this image which meant I used an average reading (Sony camera not DSLR)
processed:Crater Lake OR Processed to increase saturation which meant the lower right corner too dark. Used gradient with d-lighting to bring up details. what I don't like is the red coloring in the mountains.
Should I have used a different setup for original photo?
I thought I'd get here in time for the challenge, guess I missed it. Anyway, here's one I took last night between storms. stormy spring
Hope y'all enjoy!
Lately this little guy has been perching on the privacy fence on my back patio a lot, taunting my cats who all sit in the window and watch it closely.
I think it's trying to tell me to refill the feeder already!
Yesterday went to Cades Cove and thought about having a picnic but not able to sit where I wanted to Cades Cove 1 and then a visitor to the area am thinking did not want to be disturbed Cades Cove 2 , can't you tell by the way he seemed to be saying See U .
The area was absolutely beautiful with the snow even getting there after the snow had already been there for a week.
Hope all have a great week.
~ South Rim, Grand Canyon 2010 ~
Yeah...2010. June 17th, 2010 to be exact.Since Iv'e been away a while living life to it's fullest, I wanted to share with you some highlights of my year in review.
Matthew , Janet and I went to the see the Grand Canyon for the first time.
2 words: wuh-ow
We all arrived at the South Rim, a more popular place to view the canyon. Breathtaking. And of course, any photo can never truely do justice to anything live. Im just saying that anything live is more beautiful in person that on film, but that's for a whole other forum.
I enjoyed watching Matthew and Janet in awe of this great wonder. I had to get a shot of the two of us. Later , we found a ledge could sit on. Matt said he felt like he was on top of the world. A ways down the hike to other viewing sites, we found this ledge. I told Matt to go out there, and of course he did. He walked out on that ledge and stood there for several minutes. (I later had asked him what he was thinking out there. e told me" I felt so small, insugnificant, in this huge world of ours, Dad. God is truely an awesome God." How true, son... how true.) He then yelled to me "Hey, Dad...can I sit on that ledge ?"
<<< Hey, as I was tweeking this image, I noticed this large bird heading toward Matt. The image is degraded, but still.. >>>
Okay..I went out on that ledge and understood what Matthew was feeling.
As always, I hope you've enjoyed my little..no, BIG trip to the Grand Canyon.
<<< Brought to you by the Canon 20D >>> Official camera of the Grand Canyon.(R)
P.S. I found another shot of the
Best of 2010
Even though I haven't posted alot this year, I'd still like to throw in my 2 cents worth.
This is the Sedona Hills in Arizona when we took our trip to the Grand Canyon.
One of the old cabins in the Cades Cove area--I tried to straighten just a tad but still did not look right--to me the cabin even looks tilted in person--the leaves are slight orange/red (reason for theme catagory)
Sure hope all of you are having a great weekend--weather here has been gorgeous for the past few days!!
Some critters I've seen lately
Amazing to watch these birds fish! Black Skimmer in Surf [these are odd birds. The lower portion of the beak is longer than the upper and their eyes have vertical pupils like a cat. Wing span is about 4ft]
Which end is the head? And, yes there are two of them. Tussock moth caterpillar
Flowers and Bugs
Since I am too ugly for the last challenge (self portrait) I decided to wait for one that was easier. I went out to the Rose of Sharon Bush and started taking pictures. It has bloomed two separate times this year. It seems like the insects are more attracted to it this time than earlier in the year. The heat is making a clear liquid drip out of it constantly. If you stand under it, you get sprinkled on. Here is a shot of a butterfly and bee sharing a bloom. This is a shot of a bee being selfish. I made this shot from under the flower so the flower would be in focus, but the butterfly would be slightly beyond the focal point. This shot is a little dark, but it was overcast and the butterfly was in deep cover. I haven't commented much lately, but I have been enjoying everyone's shots. Suggestions are always appreciated.
10 n 5 #2
Another one from the trip to see parrot's PM # there were several children at the place and all seemed to enjoy trying to get the bird/s to eat from them (you know--the food that can only be bought there for the birds) in this small cup was sweetened water.
Enjoy the day!!!
10 n 5 days
Sometime back there were members who did a 10 posts in 5 days--thought I would try to see if I could possible accomplish such a feat.
A couple of weeks ago took the grandkids to a place called Parrot Mountain--they sure did enjoy seeing different parrots and trying to get them to 'talk'--one of the birds we saw on the visit PM 2
Have a good night and sure hope everyone is able to stay cool...
